Reever: Well, it does seem much like Minecraft for me, but that comes from being...voxel based? (although there are other games which don't look so cube-y).

I don't know if I'll ever play this. Minecraft didn't draw me in and even if this game should have some decent quests/story, I guess the graphics would kill it for me.

Then you can tell me more about the story...is there a storyline? Or just quests?

shane-o: Even though it's block based, there are no edges [grid] between blocks. The landscape kinda looks like plastic or some sort of plasticine. It's pleasant on the eyes and cute as hell

Currently there is no story and I'm not sure if there is one planned (I haven't looked/checked). There are missions available and also places (crossed swords) marked on the map where you may be given instructions when you get there to kill the boss inside for a reward (the only way to get platinum coins to upgrade your weapon/armour to your current power level)

A wealth of information can be found at https://picroma.com/cubeworld
Yeah, took a look earlier, does look quite interesting. And there are even races and professions. Might check it out one day :)

Like Outcast here at GOG.com! ;-p So vexels are nothing new. Minecraft just showed that they have potential, at least in indie front. And thanks to that there are dozens now voxel based games in development.

From youtube videos:

Graphics are not bad, and world generation is way better and varied than in minecraft as are creatures that inhabit it. There are plenty of giant ass bosses (can even wreck terrain) as well as smaller ones.

Only quest availabe, for now, is defeating bosses (rulers of certain areas) but Procedural Quests as well as Background Story are planned among other things (from game homepage).

You should check Cube World homepage to see all existing and planned features.

Damn ninja, you ;-p. The look is probably due to Cube World just recoloring the blocks/voxels instead of using textures like in minecraft so there's no seams to show.

Well, I value your opinion lot and if you say the game is damned good, then I guess I'll try to get it once they solve their server issue. Which isn't yet apparently. You can fill out the forum to register an account, only to be told the servers are still down.

Thanks for the reply! Didn't know about Outcast (although I've bought it), but I thought about Planet Explorers, which I've backed!

I'll certainly keep an eye on this game.

Oh, I did not know Planet Explorer used Voxel engine. Unexpected considering how CPU-intensive voxel based games tend to be and how little benefit they get from GPU, the primary reason voxel technology was abandoned back in the day. While While Outcast outshone anything in the market back in the day, best computers back then were only barely capable running it and we're talking about max resolution of 512x384 here.

Another game that graphically looks like Cube World is upcoming town building game by Radiant Entertainment. They managed to raise $751,920 with meager goal of $120,000 with their kickstarter. There's also castle building RTS Castle Story by Sauropod Studios (Kickstarter). Most of the others I know are not worth mentioning really (Guncraft, 3079, 3089, phelora of minecraft wannabe's...).
To get a picture how bad the situation is with Cube World/Picroma servers, see these statistics. Registeration and shop have been only sporratically after the first crash. You can also use the site to monitor server status without adding burden to Cube World/Picroma servers.
Wollay really needs to get his act into gear. Something, anything. Remaining silent is not helping the problem

He needs to host the game elsewhere, like Desura (30% cut, I think) and/or Humble Store (5% cut)
I would have loved to see this on HB. I just don't trust his own website enough at the moment to buy it there. Maybe later when it is more stable, but not as it is now.

Absolutely agree. He has an amazing game, but all the while people can't buy it, he may as well not have a game to sell at all.

And damn, is playing a low level ranger hard at times >_>

More people will get frustrated and resort to piracy and that makes me sad

Low level anything is a pain, but it gets easier then it will kick your arse again xD I'm a Warrior/Guardian and it was tough at the start, but now I have some blue gear, it's a lot easier. BTW, make a world and use the seed 13375. Go to the nearby town and at the merchant (potion sign) you can buy a yellow lamp for 2c - the brightest lamp in the game :D

I'm really glad you like the game :D Once you get a rideable pet and have the riding skill at 5 or more, you'll be exploring real quick :D I currently use a Bark Beetle. Pretty tough pet

Have you come across a Raccoon or Squirrel yet? xD
Account registration is up.... but..... "The shop is currently disabled due to server maintenance. Please try again later.". Bugger!!
The shop was up for about 30 seconds -_-

Registration is back up

jamyskis: On the whole, looks very interesting, although I don't know if it's €15 interesting.
Indeed. For an alpha version of a two-person project, €15 seems like a very steep price. Especially considering that they say it's going to go up in the future.

Also, if it uses an account system like Minecraft, I'd be worried about their ability to keep the login servers accessible, given the current problems they have with even keeping the store open.

If the game becomes anywhere as good as Minecraft is (the price doubled + from its beta/alpha) its well worth the money.

Apparently if you play single player it works just fine off line, so you do not need the authentication servers to play.

However, it is another matter with MP, and I guess updates needs to call home also, as with Minecraft.

My problem so far is that I have still not been able to create an account, so not even been able to get as far as to the store, each time I check the registration page is down. *sigh*
