Lin545: Why do you call the church "orthodox", when its called "pravoslavna(ja)" (right thanking)? Orthodox - "orthodoxal" / "ортодоксальная" is the unrelated hermit church.

Happy easter guys and gals!
The first group of people that has split from the Catholic church/Latin Church in the past is called Orthodox Church (officialy Eastern Orthodox Church) since the beginning. Be it Greek, Russian, Serbian and several other Orthodox variations. But yes it is called Pravoslavna or Pravoslavnaja or the true path church in slavic languages :)

And yes Happy Easter to all Orthodox Christians. Vesela Velika noč vsem pravoslavcem.

Treasure: Eh, I was talking figuratively and meant that we orthodox people should be able to express our religious preferences as well.
Of course, I was just talking it literally for joke's sake. And certainly us wishy-washy atheists (I mean agnostics) should be able to express our religious preferences as well.

That rocket IS a church. :)

Lin545: Puzzles me why people don't install "Tweakscale" and make rockets as they should be...
Because it takes away the wacky factor from the game? Not really sure, I don't even know what mods are available so far - I'm just scratching the surface of the vanilla version right now. (btw, the image wasn't mine - just a random one from the web)
Happy orthodox Easter, Treasure and friends!
Almost all of the Indian Christians are catholic/protestant so I had no idea this was a thing, happy orthodox easter to you all!

ZFR: In Syria it's a custom to visit all your relatives and friends on Easter Sunday, [...]
Paraphrasing Raoul Silva - all this running around sounds exhausting.
I just only recently found out about the strict dietary rules for observance of Orthodox Easter from someone who practices this. Is anyone observing or partially observing?

Actually, very few people are observing this nowadays, and mostly elderly ones at that. I personally had milk and meat even today, even though its just a day before the holy week -in my family we're only fasting on Holy Thursday and Friday. I'm thinking of fasting sometime in the future just to see how it goes, I'll see when I'll come around to it...

Good luck! It sounds like you need a great deal of discipline to get through it.
Happy Easter, Eastern peoples! ;P

Some of my elder relatives still practice it, but it's another one of those things that are slowly disappearing; more used to when I was a kid from what I remember.

In my family we usually only fast on Holy Friday (or both of them). And incidentally, while I love Middle Eastern/Mediterranean cuisine, the lent (meatless, dairy-less, somethingelseless) versions of the dishes (e.g. , [url=http://recipes.yooj.me/yabrak-stuffed-grape-leaves/]yabrak) I strongly hate. I'd rather eat something that didn't come with meat in the first place.

Hunter65536: happy orthodox easter to you all!
Just to be clear: Easter is actually next week (thanks for the wishes though!).

It's on Sunday, May 1st this year, you're too early with celebrations. :P I'll be probably spending time with close family, we will have barbecue, egg fights - the one who wins must eat opponents egg and that's a lot of boiled eggs to eat if you win all the time :D, Russian salad (yummy!) and delicious cakes and sweets.

My mother is. She's vegetarian normally though, so it's not like it's that huge, just milk and eggs really. I'm not religious, but I still have a soft spot for the Orthodox traditions.

Also because the Easter candy goes on sale after everyone else's Easter, you can get it real cheap for Pascha.

JMich: throwing rockets to churches :P

Treasure: I thought it was near churches, because if it were towards churches, I'd have probably caught fire at least a few times while getting out of the church or something. But then I probably haven't been in the same places you have...
Notice I said rockets, not firecrackers or fireworks. Search for "Βροντάδες Χίος", you should be able to find quite a few videos, like this one. They are basically trying to ring the other church's bell.
