[UPDATE: 15.05.2015]
We've started importing the old Private Messages into Chat. :) It's a process so you will see them gradually being added to your conversations.

[ORIGINAL]

Hi all,

Many of you probably already know this - from the various hints we dropped here and there - but for quite some time now we have been hard at work on the brand new My Account section.

Since this is a very vital part of your experience at GOG.com (basically the one place that's 100% yours), and its release day is approaching pretty fast, I wanted to give you some heads-up and a brief overview of the changes that we have in store for you. Read on! :)

New things dedicated to your games:
-- Shared user wishlist. Yes, this highly requested feature will finally make its debut along with the new My Account. With just a few clicks, you will be able to decide whether your wishlist is private (viewable only by you), shared with friends (viewable only by you and people from your friends list, which is the default setting) or shared with everyone (because why not? ;)). You will get a handy link to your wishlist that you can share wherever and with whomever you like (a GOG.com Account is not required to view a wishlist shared with everyone). :)
-- Advanced filtering. We decided that, since your collections are getting bigger and bigger with each passing day, this is the perfect time to introduce some robust filtering options to both the Library AND Wishlist. Now, finding all your RPGs with Polish localization and co-op will be… well... finally possible. ;) It’s worth noting that the filtering options are based on your collection (so if you have no games with a Polish localization, you will not see the Polish option in the language filter).
-- User tags for the Library. With the new My Account, you will be able to create your own tags (up to 50), assign them to your games and movies and later use them to even better navigate and filter your collection. You will be able to assign multiple tags to each item in your collection and doing so will be possible from both your shelf/list directly or from the game/movie details.
-- Orders history. As part of the transition into the new My Account, we are retiring the "gifts" section, but in its place we are giving you a list of ALL your past orders and ALL your gifts, including the ones that have been given to you (finally). The orders history can be tailored and adjusted to your liking with a few clicks (for example, you can change it to list gifts only).
-- Changelogs. You will be able to view game changelogs directly on the new My Account page within the game details overlay. Of course, not every game will have it, but we will be keeping the changelogs up to date for the most popular, latest titles the same way we are doing right now on the forums.
-- Better organization of the downloads list. We improved the way downloads are organized on the game/movie details overlay. It will be easier to download the correct OS and language version of our installers and see which goodies are part of which DLC.

New things dedicated to communication:
-- Friends list. Already introduced in GOG Galaxy, the friends system is making its way to the GOG.com website as part of the new My Account section.
-- Chat. Old and weary private messages are retiring and are transformed into a new, live chat system. Chat will be available from both GOG Galaxy and My Account. Don't worry, all your past conversations that were conducted via private messages will be imported and preserved in the chat (and you will now be able to continue them live!).

Smaller but notable improvements:
-- Proper game versioning. With the new My Account, we will start to display the actual game version in the downloads on the game details overlay, so you will be able to easily identify if the version you have on your computer is the latest one, or it needs updating.
-- Improved navigation. Now it will be easier to jump straight into the store page, support, and forums relevant to each item in your collection.
-- Locale settings. Change your preferred currency and website / newsletter language directly on My Account to have them stored within your profile.
-- Pagination. We brought back the much requested, tried-and-true pagination view to the new My Account. This change is dictated mostly by your convenience but also by performance / stability for accounts with bigger collections (and with better performance, we are improving your convenience at the same time:)). The default size of each page is 100 items, but we believe that with the myriad of new filtering options it won't be a problem.
-- Text titles. The new My Account will display game/movie titles in text form, both on the list and shelf views. No more deciphering the logos on small boxes! :)
-- Mobile device support. Yes, viewing My Account on your mobile device will no longer be a chore.
-- COMING SOON: Proper graphics and links for all titles. We are conducting a little clean up in this area. Pretty sooan all games should have proper graphics and links in place.
-- COMING SOON: 5 new shelf skins. We are starting with only 1 skin (the classic wood), but soon after release we will add a bunch of new styles. It's purely a visual thing, so we didn't want to focus on that before release. Since many of you requested new styles, we will be introducing them pretty soon.
-- COMING SOON: Improved searching. Soon, finding desired titles will be easier thanks to the search improvements that we'll be implementing on the new My Account. Also, as part of the solution, we will be changing the way that titles from a series are ordered (i.e. Broken Sword should always show up before Broken Sword 2).

Of course the full list of changes and improvements is much longer, but highlights should give you a nice overview of what is coming. Hope you like it already, and that you will love it when we release it in just a few days. :)

Lastly, I wanted to point out the two important things that all of you should keep in mind:
-- The change is mandatory. We love freedom of choice, and we love giving it to you whenever it's possible, but unfortunately in this case it's not possible. Maintaining two, completely separate products dedicated to the same things would negatively impact both of them on all fronts. Performance, scalability, our ability to improve and expand them, but most importantly your convenience - as some of the new features were not possible to implement on the old My Account - would all be impacted.
-- Manual sorting is no more. We have decided to skip this functionality because it was beyond our reach to deliver the quality we wanted to. We decided it would be better if we were focused on the numerous other options requested by you.

Hope all of this gives you a clear vision what to expect in the coming days. Also please rest assured that we already have plans on how to develop the My Account section in the near and distant future: what to add, what should be changed a bit, etc., but we are always open to your feedback - so jump in and share your opinion. :)

Take care,
Chamb & The Website Team

Hi all,

Thanks for all the feeback and keep it coming! We are carefully reading every post in this topic and making some notes (but please understand we cannot respond to each of you ;)).

As for the chat replacing PMs - which seems to be to most hot topic - here are few more details:
-- By default you will be able chat with everyone on GOG.com - they don't have to be your friends.
-- You will be able to change you default privacy settings to "friends only" or block it completely.
-- You will be able to start conversation the same way you did with PMs - by finding specific user on GOG.com. Previously it was limited only to the forums, but with the new My Account we will be extending that to product reviews, community wishlist, GOGmixes (basically to every place user avatar and name appears on GOG.com).
-- You can chat with multiple people at the same time, but each conversation is 1:1. There are no rooms and/or group conversations.
-- The new chat interface look a lot like the PMs, so it will feel pretty familiar.

HypersomniacLive: Games Collection
Chat
Thank you for maintaining these. Voted.

I suggest making the two titles above bold rather than underline. I clicked them about 5 times until I realised they are not links.

HypersomniacLive: GOG really doesn't want me to post the list of Wishlist entries, argh!
I can see them in your post above your post i'm replying to or are you referring to other wishlists?

Edit: and Voted!

yyahoo: I'm sure this has been mentioned before, but in looking in the Chat section, I just now noticed that it provides information on what game users are currently playing (I assume only if they are using Galaxy).

I know I'm very out of touch with things social-media-wise (I have no Steam friends and don't use any social media platforms), but I almost feel like a voyeur.

I assume if I play a game using Galaxy that this info will show up for people who have chatted with me in the past as well. Is there any way to turn this off?

Honestly, I don't care that much one way or another, but I imagine others might and it seems like an option that should at least exist...
Hearing this, I'm starting to think GOG has completely jumped the shark.

Violating customers privacy now - with no warning (right? This wasn't noted by GOG ahead of time as a 'beta thing' right? W'ere learning it here from other customers - just like the 'Galaxy starts downloading immediately after you add a game - while you race against it to stop it' crap).

They're going completely the opposite of 'customer respect' into 'spit on your customers' territory with this crap.

Seriously, who is in charge of this pile? It stinks badly, and GOG seems nothing but tone-deaf about it.

Some joker needs to be fired and this ship needs to change direction soon.

A friend emailed me to inform me of the "good news".

""An error occurred. :(
Please refresh the page or try again later."

Is the only PM I get, even after refreshing the page. Can't access old PMs or new chat messages.

I am finding the new account format confusing.
Like many others I buy games in sales that I know I won't get around to downloading for months or even, in some cases, years.
In my account some games are now split into two or more individual elements for example Earth 2150 consists of 3 titles however, there is no indication in which order these titles should be played, how they are linked or indeed if the order matters.
Sometimes there is an obvious progression but, other times I find I have to search the G.O.G. catalogue to read the game description or some other vendor if G.O.G. is no longer selling the game.
Perhaps it is just my age :)

In the old library layout the entire game collection was just one blob, there's no real indication of which order to play them in there either really unless it is a game series like Geneforge 1-5 or similar where it is one single consistent numbering scheme with no oddities. Sometimes games in a series have no numbers but names only, like the Penumbra Collection.

Whether one uses the old library format or the new one - in both cases there isn't enough information present to really determine all of this alone from what GOG provides. Ultimately one has to go to Wikipedia or Mobygames or somewhere to read up on the history of a game series's releases, expansion packs, spinoff series, other oddities and one-offs etc.

It's not really any different on Steam or any other store really.

What I discovered though, is that after they unbundled all of the game collections - I discovered that there were a whole bunch more other games included in the various collections that I didn't even know existed. It's not that GOG didn't publish the info anywhere, I just never noticed it in the game store because once I own a game I rarely ever go back to the store page per se. So once unbundled I discovered all kinds of games I not only didn't know I owned, but that I didn't know even existed, as well as expansion packs and other stuff.

The site is still under development so it's rough around the edges but in a number of ways there is more information there now modulo the bugs but that'll sort itself over time.
I gotta be honest; I am not too thrilled about the account layout for my library. It feels clunky, slow, and awkward compared to the old layout.

Would it be possible to at least add a theme closer to the original theme GOG had for our library?

Also, could you guys make it so ALL my games load when I view my library? I dislike having to go through pages of games to find certain games. I liked it a lot when I was able to view my entire library on a single page.

Lastly, stop pushing GOG Galaxy to people who can't use it. I am on XP for the time being and since you don't support XP with GOG Galaxy there is no way for me to "try it"

Please MAKE THE LIBRARY TEXT SELECTABLE AGAIN!
In the past I simply CTRL+A CTRL+C to get a full text list of the games in my library. That's no longer possible because the text is no longer selectable.
(It's worse enough that I have to click through several pages now.)

Also the usability for Downloading is getting worse. Downloading a game and it's extras with the Downloader in the past involved:
-Click on game
-Click on DL link for Installer
-Click on DL link for extras package
-Ocassionally click on an extra DL link for DLCs or a seperate patch
-Click on next game and repeat

Now to do the same I have to:
-Click on game
-Click on More
-If the game is far enough down in the list (relative to what my browser window displays) : Scroll down to even see the enty for GOG Downloader links
-Click on More again because it autocloses on scrolling
-Click on DL link for Installer
-Click on DL link for extras package
-Ocassionally click on an extra DL link for DLCs or a seperate patch
-Use the back function of the browser to get back to the list of games
-Depending on where the game is located in the list (i.e. if the details paged opened above or below the games entry - again, this relative to what the browser window displays): Click on next game or press the "x" to close the details overlay and then click on the next game.

That UI is terrible.

(As a side note, thanks for phasing out the Downloader. I just tried the Galaxy client for the first time and I already feel like uninstalling it.)

Also, instead of the since forever disfunctinal * "updated" filter, add a sort option named "last modified". I don't care what's modified. Added a new file to download? Changed a typo on the details page? Change the modified timestamp and let us sort by it. By now that would be the best way to fix the problem. I'm assuming you don't manually edit HTML and put files in a directory when you update a game, so a modified date should be trivial to implement into your toolchain, if it doesn't exist already as part of change auditing.

* Right now it shows the number 8 next to "updated" to indicate 8 updated games/updates. When I activate the filter I get a list of 13 games. Not that I ever remember it working even remotely the way it should. Pus the fact that it should be my decision when I want to have the "updated" status removed. Hence why the last modified sort option would be so much better.
I came online just now, and found my entire collection of games to be completely (almost) perfectly sorted in alphabetical order. Aside from Beyond Zork being separate from the other Zorks I am totally satisfied.
Well, Witcher 3 sale is coming and the main purpose of the Galaxy Client is supporting its sale.

I don't think they'll change anything which has not much connection to the function of delivering the game, at least not until the main sale of The Witcher 3 is over.

It would be neat to have summarized changelog for my games (and a proper RSS for it ....), because the idea of doing a proper changelog is neat, though having to click through each game to check them ... is insanity. Notifications .. erm some time they pop up, next time I'm reloading the page - not on the changed games - they disappear and come back at a random fashion, if they ever bother to resurface.

Well I've got access to my PMs/chat again finally, and I didn't think I'd say it, but I wish I hadn't lol. This is becoming hilarious, and perhaps that is due to the Kahlua and beer speaking :D

So the first thing I notice, is that my messages are now sorted by the 33 people currently online. The 33 out of the hundreds that I've messaged since I joined GOG. I think to myself, "Hmm okay, I'll just scroll down to see what order they are in?" and I'm absolutely baffled by the order as I can make head nor tail of it. It certainly isn't chronological, which one would have assumed would be the obvious order of sorting.

Perhaps they are being sorted by the number of alcoholic beverages I consume in an evening? I'll drink another and see if it makes a difference :P

Edit: I also tested the privacy settings, and changing them makes absolutely no difference to who I can see being online. I change it to "friends only" and yet every arsehole and lovely person I've chatted to still shows as being online. I cannot see a means to filter this either, nor actually filter anything in chat/PMs.
