[UPDATE: 15.05.2015]
We've started importing the old Private Messages into Chat. :) It's a process so you will see them gradually being added to your conversations.

[ORIGINAL]

Hi all,

Many of you probably already know this - from the various hints we dropped here and there - but for quite some time now we have been hard at work on the brand new My Account section.

Since this is a very vital part of your experience at GOG.com (basically the one place that's 100% yours), and its release day is approaching pretty fast, I wanted to give you some heads-up and a brief overview of the changes that we have in store for you. Read on! :)

New things dedicated to your games:
-- Shared user wishlist. Yes, this highly requested feature will finally make its debut along with the new My Account. With just a few clicks, you will be able to decide whether your wishlist is private (viewable only by you), shared with friends (viewable only by you and people from your friends list, which is the default setting) or shared with everyone (because why not? ;)). You will get a handy link to your wishlist that you can share wherever and with whomever you like (a GOG.com Account is not required to view a wishlist shared with everyone). :)
-- Advanced filtering. We decided that, since your collections are getting bigger and bigger with each passing day, this is the perfect time to introduce some robust filtering options to both the Library AND Wishlist. Now, finding all your RPGs with Polish localization and co-op will be… well... finally possible. ;) It’s worth noting that the filtering options are based on your collection (so if you have no games with a Polish localization, you will not see the Polish option in the language filter).
-- User tags for the Library. With the new My Account, you will be able to create your own tags (up to 50), assign them to your games and movies and later use them to even better navigate and filter your collection. You will be able to assign multiple tags to each item in your collection and doing so will be possible from both your shelf/list directly or from the game/movie details.
-- Orders history. As part of the transition into the new My Account, we are retiring the "gifts" section, but in its place we are giving you a list of ALL your past orders and ALL your gifts, including the ones that have been given to you (finally). The orders history can be tailored and adjusted to your liking with a few clicks (for example, you can change it to list gifts only).
-- Changelogs. You will be able to view game changelogs directly on the new My Account page within the game details overlay. Of course, not every game will have it, but we will be keeping the changelogs up to date for the most popular, latest titles the same way we are doing right now on the forums.
-- Better organization of the downloads list. We improved the way downloads are organized on the game/movie details overlay. It will be easier to download the correct OS and language version of our installers and see which goodies are part of which DLC.

New things dedicated to communication:
-- Friends list. Already introduced in GOG Galaxy, the friends system is making its way to the GOG.com website as part of the new My Account section.
-- Chat. Old and weary private messages are retiring and are transformed into a new, live chat system. Chat will be available from both GOG Galaxy and My Account. Don't worry, all your past conversations that were conducted via private messages will be imported and preserved in the chat (and you will now be able to continue them live!).

Smaller but notable improvements:
-- Proper game versioning. With the new My Account, we will start to display the actual game version in the downloads on the game details overlay, so you will be able to easily identify if the version you have on your computer is the latest one, or it needs updating.
-- Improved navigation. Now it will be easier to jump straight into the store page, support, and forums relevant to each item in your collection.
-- Locale settings. Change your preferred currency and website / newsletter language directly on My Account to have them stored within your profile.
-- Pagination. We brought back the much requested, tried-and-true pagination view to the new My Account. This change is dictated mostly by your convenience but also by performance / stability for accounts with bigger collections (and with better performance, we are improving your convenience at the same time:)). The default size of each page is 100 items, but we believe that with the myriad of new filtering options it won't be a problem.
-- Text titles. The new My Account will display game/movie titles in text form, both on the list and shelf views. No more deciphering the logos on small boxes! :)
-- Mobile device support. Yes, viewing My Account on your mobile device will no longer be a chore.
-- COMING SOON: Proper graphics and links for all titles. We are conducting a little clean up in this area. Pretty sooan all games should have proper graphics and links in place.
-- COMING SOON: 5 new shelf skins. We are starting with only 1 skin (the classic wood), but soon after release we will add a bunch of new styles. It's purely a visual thing, so we didn't want to focus on that before release. Since many of you requested new styles, we will be introducing them pretty soon.
-- COMING SOON: Improved searching. Soon, finding desired titles will be easier thanks to the search improvements that we'll be implementing on the new My Account. Also, as part of the solution, we will be changing the way that titles from a series are ordered (i.e. Broken Sword should always show up before Broken Sword 2).

Of course the full list of changes and improvements is much longer, but highlights should give you a nice overview of what is coming. Hope you like it already, and that you will love it when we release it in just a few days. :)

Lastly, I wanted to point out the two important things that all of you should keep in mind:
-- The change is mandatory. We love freedom of choice, and we love giving it to you whenever it's possible, but unfortunately in this case it's not possible. Maintaining two, completely separate products dedicated to the same things would negatively impact both of them on all fronts. Performance, scalability, our ability to improve and expand them, but most importantly your convenience - as some of the new features were not possible to implement on the old My Account - would all be impacted.
-- Manual sorting is no more. We have decided to skip this functionality because it was beyond our reach to deliver the quality we wanted to. We decided it would be better if we were focused on the numerous other options requested by you.

Hope all of this gives you a clear vision what to expect in the coming days. Also please rest assured that we already have plans on how to develop the My Account section in the near and distant future: what to add, what should be changed a bit, etc., but we are always open to your feedback - so jump in and share your opinion. :)

Take care,
Chamb & The Website Team

Hi all,

Thanks for all the feeback and keep it coming! We are carefully reading every post in this topic and making some notes (but please understand we cannot respond to each of you ;)).

As for the chat replacing PMs - which seems to be to most hot topic - here are few more details:
-- By default you will be able chat with everyone on GOG.com - they don't have to be your friends.
-- You will be able to change you default privacy settings to "friends only" or block it completely.
-- You will be able to start conversation the same way you did with PMs - by finding specific user on GOG.com. Previously it was limited only to the forums, but with the new My Account we will be extending that to product reviews, community wishlist, GOGmixes (basically to every place user avatar and name appears on GOG.com).
-- You can chat with multiple people at the same time, but each conversation is 1:1. There are no rooms and/or group conversations.
-- The new chat interface look a lot like the PMs, so it will feel pretty familiar.

ggf162: 1: All purchases before, say, August 15 (latest date in my orders) say "paid with free order" even though they most certainly didn't.
well i think it's a little different ; i think it's when they added differents currencies -> so the old system for the orders looks a little different, :

maybe for the moment all those orders are set to free orders.

i have the same result , but i used paypal or my credit card before the introduction of the differents currencues and i don't think it's paypal the culprit. , because no matter the pâiement method all are set as free orders.

Issues/Inconveniences found so far - pls re-direct me if this isn't the thread for reporting these.

*Galaxy wont update unless restarted - was on version 0.7.* thinking it was the latest and curious as to why everyone had features I did not.

*Games list is now in "pages" - since the search doesn't seem to work (was after GoG Galaxy) having to manually go though 12 pages on my slow internet is ........ annoying to say the least.

*Downloading has no pause or throttle function - vitally important as I travel quite a great deal and often have to resort to using expensive 3G/4G. The ability to pause or throttle downloads until I have the bandwidth (or free data) is a requirement I can't live without.

*No common Internet UI functions - Usual functions a person would find on this type of interface don't work, i.e. CTR+F to find, ALT+<- to go back (a function programmed into my mouse which I normally use on web or UI's), F5 refresh, etc.

*"Scan & Import" needs a manual functionality - Automated is great but didn't pick up a few of my GoG games, the ability to manually direct Galaxy would be great. If it still failed to pick-up the game then I could probably (maybe not) do a re-install, but not before I've exhausted every other option.

*Download Extra's - ....... I can't find the extra's! That aside, Galaxy doesn't make it clear if they're installed or not, in fact even when I know I've already installed them Galaxy will do so again without checking they exist. Then again I can't actually find where they're been saved, nor can I seem to access them through Galaxy or the game so I'm still uncertain.
When I try to import previously installed games the selection window shows my user "My Documents" folder as root without a way explore to where my games are actually installed (which is not in the my user "My Documents" folder). If I try to navigate to the game card from within the Galaxy Library to import the game folder by manually entering the install path (because the selection window still shows my user "My Documents" folder as root without a way explore to where my games are actually installed; but at here I can import the game folder by manually entering the install path) Galaxy redownloads the game & reinstalls it which destroys my modded installation.

It would be nice to have custom sorting options again. I prefer to have my games grouped by series in chronological order followed by grouping by fictional setting, game engine, etc... For example; I used to be able to group all my D&D games together & within that have the Infinity Engine games grouped together followed by the Enhanced Infinity Engine games, the Aurora/Electron games which were followed by the 2 Knights of the Old Republic games (both of those games used modified versions of the same game engines that the 2 Neverwinter Nights games used, they also used a modified version of the d20 rule set that the NWN games also used) followed by the rest of the D&D games. I don't own any of the other Star Wars game, nor am I interested in them; that still doesn't help with "Neverwinter Nights" not being alphabetically proximate to "Star Wars". I used to be able to group all my Ultima games with Akalabeth followed by the games of the main Ultima series which was followed by the 2 Underworld games which was followed by the 2 Ultima World games. Imagine how much I would like to sort the all Might & Magic games directly with the Heroes games or sort the Spiderweb games together, but can't unfortunately because of the way they are titled & GOG no longer allows custom sorting. And so on... Forcing grouping by only alphabetizing or by purchase date leaves much to be desired.

The games on your shelf no longer look like game boxes, they are the wrong shape. It's not pretty guys.

Change is fine, but it isn't better, our libraries looks like some cheap storefront now, not a digital shelf of games. Which I was quite fond of.

I spent over a hour organizing all 98 of my games in the exact order I wanted through "Manual" just a week ago, only for it to be undone, they're all in random order (No matter what pre-set order I put them in they're still randomly scattered) and I can't manually sort them again.

So PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE GOG bring back the manual sorting again! My OCD can't take this unorganized mess.

And seeing as I bought 98 games from you (Albeit most are from large collections), doesn't my opinion count for something?

Also even the sorting is messed up, as I set my library to RPG only. Might and Magic 7,8 and 9 are present but not the first 6. Wizardry 8, but not 6 or 7. Ultima 4, Martian Dreams, Savage Empire, and Akalabeth but none of the other Ultima games are present. And Night of the Rabbit is in "action" despite being a point&click adventure game. What the heck!?

For the sake of knowing which files actually got updated, will you be marking the actual updated files. I speak English, I use Windows 7 (so far). If the German Linux version is the only thing that got updated, it doesn't interest me in the least (perhaps allow us to set preferences as to which language(s)/OS(s) we want to see notifications for).

It has recently been a bit of work to look at the "What Did Just Update?" thread, wading through the last few weeks of messages, looking for the particular files that got updated for the games that are flagged on the shelf. Oh, and, yes, I thank you for putting the version numbers on the new Library, perhaps that will help alleviate that, somewhat.

Also, I hope this new My Account will not show that something is new, after I check out what's new and download the English Windows version, but didn't look at the Mac or Linux version. (I'm assuming this is what happened, when it still has the number 2 by Account on the shelf/list page, yet the top of the shelf shows no new/updated files to download - hopefully the new My Account will fix that, as well - I've even had it say 1 or nothing on the GOG Home page, yet 2 on the Library page.)

Oh, will there be a new downloader to go with it? It would be nice in the downloader to have a menu allowing you to exit the program in the download window.

Thank you for all your hard work,

PK

I have a wishlisted game that is not on sale anymore!

With the new Account system I have a game called "Dark Matter" on my wishlist, which I can't remove, probably because it has been removed from gog sale catalogue approximately 1.5 years ago.
ticket number OMIV5GJS

clicking on x does not remove it, just cycles between "x" and "heart".

zyzygy: My games are now impossible to locate.
I can't even get them all on one page anymore.

Might and Magic games are all over the place
Myst series is all over the place
Monkey Island games are all over the place
Dark Eye: Chains of Satinav is nowhere near Dark Eye: Memoria

By Title is useless because you're not even consistent in whether you use "A", "An", and "The" as the first word of the title or not.
Game series are broken up because you don't put them under the name of the series.

By Date is even worse. Does anyone really want their RPG's all mixed up with their Sims, their Incredible Machines, and all sorts of other genres?

Date isn't even original date, so ancient DOSBox games are mixed up with 2014 games.

I spent TWO DAMN HOURS repairing my Manual organization after you saw fit to break up my game collections and move them all to the bottom.

And now a few days later it's all gone.
All that work for nothing -- along with the "bookcase" appearance.
Looks like some generic sales crap instead of something resembling real game boxes.

And it takes 20 times as long to find a damn thing !!!

Like having some moron come in and take all your carefully arranged boxed games off your bookshelf, then dump them all in a box, stir them around, and throw them back at you claiming it's the same thing.

The new system is GARBAGE!!!

I HATE IT !!!
You can type a game name in the filter and it will be sorted to the top instantly. You can sort by genre and filter by genre. It's much EASIER to find things now, all in all. However the nice aesthetic is gone.

Maybe GOG can be persuaded by you by your request to make it more aesthetically pleasing ? ;)

I mean while they are doing this anyway , quote posts from top of page :

-- COMING SOON: Proper graphics and links for all titles. We are conducting a little clean up in this area. Pretty sooan all games should have proper graphics and links in place.
-- COMING SOON: 5 new shelf skins. We are starting with only 1 skin (the classic wood), but soon after release we will add a bunch of new styles. It's purely a visual thing, so we didn't want to focus on that before release. Since many of you requested new styles, we will be introducing them pretty soon

Again, given their past history, I'll just assume those features won't ever be added. Then I can be pleasantly surprised if they decide to actually do it.
EDIT: And now forum reply notifications are broken. Sweet. It gets better and better.

100% agree
So manual sorting is out for good? Is it that hard to implement? :/
