[UPDATE: 15.05.2015]
We've started importing the old Private Messages into Chat. :) It's a process so you will see them gradually being added to your conversations.

[ORIGINAL]

Hi all,

Many of you probably already know this - from the various hints we dropped here and there - but for quite some time now we have been hard at work on the brand new My Account section.

Since this is a very vital part of your experience at GOG.com (basically the one place that's 100% yours), and its release day is approaching pretty fast, I wanted to give you some heads-up and a brief overview of the changes that we have in store for you. Read on! :)

New things dedicated to your games:
-- Shared user wishlist. Yes, this highly requested feature will finally make its debut along with the new My Account. With just a few clicks, you will be able to decide whether your wishlist is private (viewable only by you), shared with friends (viewable only by you and people from your friends list, which is the default setting) or shared with everyone (because why not? ;)). You will get a handy link to your wishlist that you can share wherever and with whomever you like (a GOG.com Account is not required to view a wishlist shared with everyone). :)
-- Advanced filtering. We decided that, since your collections are getting bigger and bigger with each passing day, this is the perfect time to introduce some robust filtering options to both the Library AND Wishlist. Now, finding all your RPGs with Polish localization and co-op will be… well... finally possible. ;) It’s worth noting that the filtering options are based on your collection (so if you have no games with a Polish localization, you will not see the Polish option in the language filter).
-- User tags for the Library. With the new My Account, you will be able to create your own tags (up to 50), assign them to your games and movies and later use them to even better navigate and filter your collection. You will be able to assign multiple tags to each item in your collection and doing so will be possible from both your shelf/list directly or from the game/movie details.
-- Orders history. As part of the transition into the new My Account, we are retiring the "gifts" section, but in its place we are giving you a list of ALL your past orders and ALL your gifts, including the ones that have been given to you (finally). The orders history can be tailored and adjusted to your liking with a few clicks (for example, you can change it to list gifts only).
-- Changelogs. You will be able to view game changelogs directly on the new My Account page within the game details overlay. Of course, not every game will have it, but we will be keeping the changelogs up to date for the most popular, latest titles the same way we are doing right now on the forums.
-- Better organization of the downloads list. We improved the way downloads are organized on the game/movie details overlay. It will be easier to download the correct OS and language version of our installers and see which goodies are part of which DLC.

New things dedicated to communication:
-- Friends list. Already introduced in GOG Galaxy, the friends system is making its way to the GOG.com website as part of the new My Account section.
-- Chat. Old and weary private messages are retiring and are transformed into a new, live chat system. Chat will be available from both GOG Galaxy and My Account. Don't worry, all your past conversations that were conducted via private messages will be imported and preserved in the chat (and you will now be able to continue them live!).

Smaller but notable improvements:
-- Proper game versioning. With the new My Account, we will start to display the actual game version in the downloads on the game details overlay, so you will be able to easily identify if the version you have on your computer is the latest one, or it needs updating.
-- Improved navigation. Now it will be easier to jump straight into the store page, support, and forums relevant to each item in your collection.
-- Locale settings. Change your preferred currency and website / newsletter language directly on My Account to have them stored within your profile.
-- Pagination. We brought back the much requested, tried-and-true pagination view to the new My Account. This change is dictated mostly by your convenience but also by performance / stability for accounts with bigger collections (and with better performance, we are improving your convenience at the same time:)). The default size of each page is 100 items, but we believe that with the myriad of new filtering options it won't be a problem.
-- Text titles. The new My Account will display game/movie titles in text form, both on the list and shelf views. No more deciphering the logos on small boxes! :)
-- Mobile device support. Yes, viewing My Account on your mobile device will no longer be a chore.
-- COMING SOON: Proper graphics and links for all titles. We are conducting a little clean up in this area. Pretty sooan all games should have proper graphics and links in place.
-- COMING SOON: 5 new shelf skins. We are starting with only 1 skin (the classic wood), but soon after release we will add a bunch of new styles. It's purely a visual thing, so we didn't want to focus on that before release. Since many of you requested new styles, we will be introducing them pretty soon.
-- COMING SOON: Improved searching. Soon, finding desired titles will be easier thanks to the search improvements that we'll be implementing on the new My Account. Also, as part of the solution, we will be changing the way that titles from a series are ordered (i.e. Broken Sword should always show up before Broken Sword 2).

Of course the full list of changes and improvements is much longer, but highlights should give you a nice overview of what is coming. Hope you like it already, and that you will love it when we release it in just a few days. :)

Lastly, I wanted to point out the two important things that all of you should keep in mind:
-- The change is mandatory. We love freedom of choice, and we love giving it to you whenever it's possible, but unfortunately in this case it's not possible. Maintaining two, completely separate products dedicated to the same things would negatively impact both of them on all fronts. Performance, scalability, our ability to improve and expand them, but most importantly your convenience - as some of the new features were not possible to implement on the old My Account - would all be impacted.
-- Manual sorting is no more. We have decided to skip this functionality because it was beyond our reach to deliver the quality we wanted to. We decided it would be better if we were focused on the numerous other options requested by you.

Hope all of this gives you a clear vision what to expect in the coming days. Also please rest assured that we already have plans on how to develop the My Account section in the near and distant future: what to add, what should be changed a bit, etc., but we are always open to your feedback - so jump in and share your opinion. :)

Take care,
Chamb & The Website Team

Hi all,

Thanks for all the feeback and keep it coming! We are carefully reading every post in this topic and making some notes (but please understand we cannot respond to each of you ;)).

As for the chat replacing PMs - which seems to be to most hot topic - here are few more details:
-- By default you will be able chat with everyone on GOG.com - they don't have to be your friends.
-- You will be able to change you default privacy settings to "friends only" or block it completely.
-- You will be able to start conversation the same way you did with PMs - by finding specific user on GOG.com. Previously it was limited only to the forums, but with the new My Account we will be extending that to product reviews, community wishlist, GOGmixes (basically to every place user avatar and name appears on GOG.com).
-- You can chat with multiple people at the same time, but each conversation is 1:1. There are no rooms and/or group conversations.
-- The new chat interface look a lot like the PMs, so it will feel pretty familiar.

O.K. - maybe I am just too old for this whole social media thing (44) but I just don't understand it at all.
Yesterday I was able to PM with several people which were all saved in my past PMs. Today I am not able to communicate with anyone because I don't know how (where are the instructions?). Also all my PMs (some of them quite important for me) are gone now. When will I get them back? I also have a friend request (for whatever use this is) and I cannot accept it because nothing happens if I click on the button or the arrow. And to make this whole mess complete, my library now only says 404 error. Not very nice. I really love you guys but don't change everything at once. I have enough stress with Galaxy and I am about to not use it at all because of the many mistakes and now this. This was kind of like my second home but home ain't home anymore ....

Edit: Found out how to send a chat-mail (or whatever) so this issue is resolved - the other things are still not good.

Chamb: snip
Now that there's the new account launch thread, should we post our feedback here or there?

I'll leave mine here for the time being. Overall, I like it. Below I leave my notes on each section with some suggestions/problems detected:

Library
- I don't see the point in showing the rating like that, because unbundled games have no rating. Either remove it altogether (my favorite solution) or at least give unbundled games the same rating as the bundle they belong to.
- If you have multiple tags on a item, only one shows up. I'd rather see them all, or at least a couple more. Like this you are left wondering if you already added a certain tag to an item or not because it might be hidden.
- When you apply any filter on your collection it should tell you how many titles match the filter(s) you just applied. Right know it just tells you the total number of items in your collection regardless of any filters you apply, which is useless.
- We should be able to reverse tag filtering. So if I have a tag for finished games I can just revert that filter and get the rest of them (the unfinished ones). Right now the only option seems to be to create both a "finished" and an "unfinished" tag. Tedious and not user friendly...
- I don't like the new look for the grid view. I get that it can't just be the cover anymore, but I think keeping the old background look and options would be better. As it is, it looks like things are hovering in the air instead of on a shelf.
- There are still a lot of problems with the alphabetical sorting (for instance: Black Mirror 1 shows after 2 and 3, and Blackwell Legacy only shows up in T; but there's many more). I read somewhere you guys where working on that though, but it's far from finished from what I can see.

Download pages
- I suggest adding two fields to the version number of the installers/patches: dev build and GOG build. The current system is very confusing, and with cross-play in Galaxy this will be a problem. Not an issue originated with the new account system, true, but it's maybe a good time to address it.
- The Downloader links are too hidden now, it's quite non user-friendly. A button next to to the "Try Galaxy Now" to turn Downloader mode on and off (similar to what it was before) would be much better.
- Using the Downloader you no longer have the option to select individual files. Again, not very user-friendly. If you only want to download a patch or a few select extras you can't. With patches this is particularly annoying.

Wishlist
- To be able to add tags to the wishlist would also be great, especially since you can now make it public. Tags would be useful for personal organization but also to let others know your priorities, etc.
- I don't really see the point of showing the genre of the game like that. I mean, if you added it to your wishlist you know, right? And why show it here and not in the Library? You can always use a filter for that stuff. I think it's just taking up space that could be better used for tags.

Friends
- To be able to set up a profile and to be able to open other people’s profiles from here would be great.
- At the moment the page seems broken, I can't accept/deny friend request. I get the button with the arrow when I hover over it with the mouse but I can't click on anything.

Chat
- It's missing a block/ignore option.
- It's missing a delete conversation option.
- All my previous PM's are gone, I would very much want them imported to the chat.

Orders
- The new section with the orders is great, but I would keep it in a separate tab though, to have together with the options looks really weird.

Options
- I would like an option regarding how many items are shown at a time in the library/wishlist (instead of the fixed 100).

General stuff
- Too many menus inside menus, with scrolling inside menus to top it off. More buttons and less menus please.

EDIT: Fixed some typos...

Trilarion: They see the virtual game shelf as replacement for their beloved real game shelf in their home in the old times and they do not like anything reducing the beauty of it. It's a matter of taste.

moonshineshadow: This.
But it seems like "we" dinosaurs are no longer needed.
It's not a matter of age.
I am most likely as old as you , and while I miss my old game shelf then I will accept changes as long as they are towards something that still woks nice and is functional :)

FiatLux: However please notice that GOG have stated elsewhere (in a forum post I think) that though the original GOG downloader can not be guaranteed to be able to be compatible with future changes though they say that they will not break it deliberately . ..
But if *that day* comes and they by then have not made the Galaxy Client able to work just as smooth and nice as the original Downloader for people that just wants to download their game install files then I am personally going to beat GOG with a big club until they make it so ;)

Martek: For a lot of companies, saying something like that is 'PR speak' for 'expect that sucker to stop working any day now..'

.. and .. here we are, ITT and other threads I see word about the already downloader not working. Perhaps it's just misunderstanding where to find links on the new 'improved' library.. I don't know.. and sure, you have posted (later ITT) that it works for you even as you type - but it may be that just certain games don't work with the downloader any longer (which, as luck would have it, happen to not be yours). Like a disease, that will spread to more and more games, until there's just one lonely holdout remaining that will work with the downloader. Then POOF none will work..

Of course, none of the above will happen deliberately..
Such a waste of all your irony !
I had more than 700 games on GOG prior to their splitting some game packs into more games (so now game counter on top of my library page says 887 games... )
So if you think that I for one moment will take broken downloads to my games from my game library without I contacts support to have them fix it ASAP then you really are stupid ! - if you have a problem then contact GOG support which I am sure will assist you with any legitimate problem that you may face in attempting to download the games from your game library...

Most of the users not liking the changes have been here for some time. That is why I took that reference. Has nothing to do with real age.
So you are no dinosaur, you are one of the other races that survived ;-)

As far as I personally am concerned then as already stated then I will expect the Galaxy client to be able to then to do what the GOG downloader can now if / when the GOG Downloader stops working and if they have not already made it so on their own accord or don't make it so then I will make a complaint - but I don't think that that will be necessary as I have already asked GOG to make it so and I expect them to listen to common sense requests / advice :)

Chamb: One more thing: we pushed the more restrictive settings for the wishlist and it defaults to "shared with nobody", while it should to "shared with friends only".

We've changed the default setting to proper ones. If you want to change it back to "shared with nobody" you can do so by going to https://www.gog.com/account/settings/privacy.
I hope you're doing this in such a way as to ensure you never share anything without my explicit consent.

EDIT: big oops - in fact it appears that my wishlist was set to "shared with friends" even after I explicitly set it to private; it's a good job I don't have any friends. ;-)

This is the type of thing that's gets a company in hot water these days...

KaneTheGoth: The manual sorting and the fact that GOG understood how important this is to a lot of classic gamers who love the old box art and sorting collections is one of the things I loved about GoG. Now I have a charmless shelf, forced sorting, no box designs, and many of the collections have been split up, How do I get The 7th Guest and 11th Hour next to each other? Or put Broken Sword 1 at the front of the series instead of Broken Sword 2? This may all seem very minor, but my shelf has gone from looking like a proper shelf where everything has a place, to a shoddy mess of unsortable chaos.

For the first time since I joined (2011) I am starting to lose my faith in GOG.
avatar
kborom: I spent an hour at the weekend sorting my list manually (around 70) after the unbundling, and now the manual sorting is gone :)

All my Ultima's are near the bottom :(
Spent way more than one hour carefully arranging all my games. Spent even more time after the unbundling.

Thanks for wasting my time, gog.

I know , I know (you don't have to tell me that most opposing are "older GOG users") but me being one of the guys that are not so young are actually on of those who suggested the making of e.g. the Galaxy client in the first place , for me it's not just a matter of convenience but also a question of making GOG far more accessible to guys other than such as us (including dinos) so that GOG may hopefully become much more popular and grow to appeal to a far more wider audience than just old guys stuck in their ways ;) :P ;)
I really like GOG , and while I do understand someone like you and I think that GOG should not alienate core users such as you and I then GOG also needs to move forward and follow the times to keep pace with younger customers expectations also....
It might be an impossible feat for GOG to pull off to cater to both guys such as you and then also to both the less computer savvy and the younger crowd but I really believe that they have to try to give GOG a far better chance of being the trendsetter company (DRM FREE concept) and not just leave it to places such as e.g. Steam !

Sorry for the inconvenience.
IMO, it was fine at "shared with nobody" as it should be up to each user, but hanks for the heads up.

You did not get back to me about settings saved in LocaleStorage not working properly, and not just for me, and my request. Will you?
i put some ideas on a screen capture , because it was more easier for me to explain what i wanted to say.

also i agree with Hyper; :there are some problems with the settings :

ie : the library is reverted in grid mode everytime i log out , i use the list view

I am not against the client and changes, I thought it was a nice idea and even alpha tested the client. But I honestly think that it is a really shitty idea, to take features away. Introducing new things and options fine. But at the cost of old features. That sucks and gives me the feeling that I am not anymore a customer gog is interested in.
So if gog wants to be another steam, they can just do that without me. I have enough games to last me through a lifetime, so I do not really need more. More games are nice and I loved having a great collection here but now the collection feeling is gone. So if I want a new game, I'll just go back to boxed versions even if that needs more space.

Hate the changes. Want the old bookshelf back and manual sorting. Add another person to the list that sorted everything out after the unbundling. I want to see the game boxes with original art!

Frankly (and perhaps somewhat stupidly) that shelf and seeing the box art was one of the MAIN reasons I purchased games here. I could probably count on two hands how many classics I've actually replayed. (Oh, and I enjoyed the extras.)

Also wish GoG would focus on what made them great. The world does not need another freakin' download client. Steam, uPlay, Origin, etc, etc, etc. (Or a movie purchase portal. Don't merge that into GoG.)

EDIT: This crap and already selling DLC for a game that's not out yet is really lowering my opinion of you guys.

It's not a 'waste of all my irony' unless you are downloading all 887 games right now and know they all work, right now, via the downloader. :) Is that what you are doing?

HypersomniacLive: [...] For now though I'd like to ask - can we have a "don't show this again" option for that Galaxy client banner in our game collection? Hitting the "X' doesn't do the job, as it's right there again whenever I log in and go to my game collection (it's not a library or shelf anymore).
avatar
Chamb: If clicked the X we are saving that in LocalStorage.
What does 'saving that in LocalStorage' mean?

I browse in 'incognito' mode, which wipes all cookies when I exit the browser. Is that what LocalStorage is? Is that why the setting for the banner isn't saved on my PC?

You dont have to use the client if you dont want.
most of the extra features you can turn off.
Agreed with the bookshelf though, it looks boring but It still a beta so they migth fix the bookshelf later.

Surely it "sucks" if someone changes your favorite scenery or whatever but personally I don't think that there is any need to get as negative as you apparently do ..

We can't keep exchanging posts about this (at least I don't have the time) so I would just like to suggest that you go to the Galaxy client page : http://www.gog.com/galaxy
and reads it , and when you have done that then read it as many times more as it takes until you get that GOG is *NOT* steam and that GOG is about selling DRM FREE stuff !!!

and when that has been accepted as a fact by you - which you are hopefully able to do then read the the page bottom text which says :
"Made with love in Warsaw, Poland. Share your feedback or send bug report and help us to make GOG Galaxy even better. "
