InvisibleJim: GOGcom's community managers and CDProjektred's bending the knee to anti-consumer "journalists" and then blanking out their customers in favour of massaging the shoulders of the scum over in Resetera tells me everything I need to know.
1) GOG/CDPR do not value gamers
2) There are many toxic SJW members of staff in GOG/CDPR
3) Do not buy games on GOGcom
4) Steam is a more trustworthy place to buy games
Kind of wrecked your comment with that point 4. If GOG goes belly up then all the games are DRM free, so by and large we lose nothing. A solution could be found where people keep access to all their stuff.
If Steam goes down, all your stuff there is subject to DRM, which means it all becomes inaccessible. We're already at a point where, if Valve wanted to, they could start to push costs of maintenance onto the users with a subscription fee and the users would not have a recourse. Pay up or lose access.
On top of that, there's the whole trading card bot farming nonsense, the scammers, and the loot gambling mechanics, all of which are de facto supported by Steam.
So no, Steam is not a more trustworthy place to buy games, and every game you buy on Steam gives them that much more potential leverage over you.
As for point 1, which digital distributor does more for gamers? Prices are fine, catalog is huge, service is stable, no DRM.
Point 2, why does that even begin to mater?
Point 3, why not? Who provides a better service?
