adaliabooks: I suppose you could look at it that way, but I don't think it's any worse than being the NK currently.
Besides if there is a specific action resolution time (which would always be known to everyone) then there's only one time each day when you could possibly drop dead.
I have to see how it all works in practice before commenting further.

Just leave an offering of virgins and/or sacrifices at the altar to Vitek. It'll be fiiine.
Did I hear we were dancing with cats?
I have a question for preferences for my next game. I will be System Shock 2 themed and will be open again. It will have two scum factions (SHODAN and THE MANY) and my baseline idea is to use the setup 'Friends and Enemies and Enemies' with the substitution: Mafia = SHODAN, Werewolf = The Many, Masons = Hackers. So, the baseline design doesn't get Cult elements and is certified to be somewhat balanced.

But I have been thinking, we had quite some success with cult games and it fits the theme well. So I thought I might give the two scum factions the possibility to try to recruit instead of killing at night, with the danger that if they target a Mason or one of the other scum faction, the recruiter dies. That means, they can try to increase their faction size, but have a 50% chance of instead losing one of their own. If they chose to NK, however, that kill is guaranteed to go through, but they can't recruit in the same night.
That still makes scum more dangerous, so I would offset this by giving the Hackers (the Masons) a Daytalk.

What would you prefer? Classic setup with certified balance? Or swingy, experimental setup with Cult elements?

I’m a fan of trying new things, and your idea sounds pretty cool so I say go for the swingy/experimental setup :-)

I have an aversion to cult games that exists deep down inside. It is a knee-jerk revulsion that no amount of therapy has been able to drive from my system (1). The bias is so strong, that whenever someone mentions Cult in a Mafia context, a facial tic develops and persists for several minutes (2). If there are too many Mafia games with cult, in too short a time, I may go into a unbridled rage, murdering with wanton abandon up and down the U.S. Eastern seaboard (3).

But, hey, do what ever makes you feel best. It is your game after all. :)

----------------------------------------------------------------

(1) Krypsyn has never attempted therapy on this subject.
(2) This is patently untrue, unless a grimace and/or groan constitutes a 'tic'.
(3) Highly unlikely. While Krypsyn is not totally averse to mass killing, in theory, he realizes that, in practice, it may result in his incarceration or worse. Therefore, if he did go off a killin', it wouldn't be as obvious as some sort of pedestrian 'spree'.
Both sound good to me, so go for the one you'd like to host.
I like new and different. I am also a weirdo.

/waves from the bushes.

Yep me too =)
So far we have three votes for cultish experiments, one indifferent and one against cults in general.

But actually it's not my turn to mod yet, if Gamma shows up. If Gamma doesn't want to mod, I can give the new setting a try. Has anyone seen Gamma?

While I am in the danger zone, maybe I should vote for the cult game as a way of opening up some job opportunities... ;)

No. His primary connection to here seemed to be through Drealmer.

Ah, then maybe he left as well. I wrote to him and asked whether he is still up for modding. Let's wait a day or two for a reply.

I played around with the setup a bit in my head and decided to limit the conversion shots. So the game would be a hybrid between regular play and cult play. Since it is going to be open anyhow, have a look at the current setup and tell me what you think.

You mean I need to vote for people to know I like cults? Why?

Because your vote is your weapon!

I thought my powers of persuasion were my weapon.
Oh, right, I need to blend in. Yes, my vote is my weapon.
