Krypsyn: Also, apologies for typoing your name, "deoporno", in the EBWOP post. ;)
No offense taken. As long as you get the "porno" part right it's all good :P
avatar
dedoporno: Trent, agent, crew, JMich, maybe others, but I think that's it.
I missed CarrionCrow in that list.
Sorry peeps, I see we have a Crisis Event in full swing, but I woke up sick this morning, and am fighting a temperature all day long.

I will try to catch up, and hopefully be back later with something game-related.

HypersomniacLive: Sorry peeps, I see we have a Crisis Event in full swing, but I woke up sick this morning, and am fighting a temperature all day long.
Get well soon!
avatar
mchack: As for Vitek and Krypsyn: I don't see the point. Like at all.
avatar
Krypsyn: Try looking for underlying meaning, rather than just taking what is said literally. Reading between the lines might help.
I'm trying (besides I'm really tired since there's alot of stress at work for me, but I'm trying to reread all of your posts) but reading between lines proves difficult since it's mostly one-liners :P (also I really am not that good at it :/ Hopefully I'll get better with time...)

avatar
mchack: also for Krypsyn: Now since you apparently (jokingly?) claimed your stats as being DEF, ATK, SNK and FIN, how is it that you got a minus 1 to INT by the edit elves? What the hell happened to Townies only telling the Truth? That question goes for Vitek aswell...
avatar
Krypsyn: I can't speak for Vitek, but I, personally, haven't lied. Check your assumptions, then get back to me. :)
avatar
Krypsyn: More to the point, since I am feeling magnanimous (and I doubt either of you two will figure it out any time soon), it can be demonstrably shown that I have spoken about the contents of my PM without inaccuracy throughout the entire thread. In fact, I don't remember even referring to my PM at all, except obliquely in post 4.

In all other cases, I referenced stats, but never directly mentioned my PM. It was merely an assumption on the part of others that made them draw the conclusion that I was speaking about my PM. I like to mess with people's assumptions in Mafia; a lot can be learned by which direction people choose to jump when forced to fill in the blanks for themselves.

It other words, I am demonstrably not a liar in this case.
So rereading post #28, Does that mean you're a boeing is true and confirmable? (that means I'm expecting a 7?7 (probably 757 or 747) in stats from you) or is the only thing you indirectly told the truth about from your pm, that you have a FIN stat?

avatar
QuadrAlien: In retrospect, possibly should have just gone with DEX, but no matter. :P
avatar
Krypsyn: I get DEF and ATK, but what is SNK for? Sneak?
So this is just saying stuff completely unrelated to the game? In a reply to the game mod? Just to mess with everybody's assumption a player's post would be about the game we are playing together at that moment? So whatever you say as long as you don't directly (or obliquely) mention your PM I should just disregard as it's probably not really game related anyway? At least if you're talking about yourself that is.

I'm sorry, I like that you actually took the time to answer my questions and I like that you said that you were only telling the truth. But when I think about it, you say you haven't actually said anything about your PM ever (apart from saying you have a FIN stat), so therefore it can't possibly be a lie.
The Vote stays. Although I am tempted to switch over to Vitek now :/

Because:

avatar
JMich: I invoke LAL, so vote Vitek. When the sum of my stats is less than his claimed lowest one, I call shenanigans.
I get what he's doing with that post, but I still find it wrong (the post, not his intention).
avatar
dedoporno: I thought the exact same thing, but even if you do it as a matter of principal you should also consider yours stats alone aren't enough to prove he is actually not telling the truth.
I think the following quotes are enough to prove that.

avatar
Vitek: As far as I know my Finess of 17 can be deeply below average so I am not going to volunteer for anything.
It's my lowest stat so I know it can't be that good.
avatar
trentonlf: LOL, it that's the case I'm in a lot of trouble with mine
avatar
Ixamyakxim: *says Vitek as he backflips over the locked room, juggling jars of specimens and chewing gum at the same time*
avatar
Krypsyn: Übermensch
avatar
agentcarr16: Does anyone else seem a disparity here? Also, how the &*#%$(# do you have a FIN stat of 17?
avatar
Crewdroog: Oh and I call shenanigans on his 17. :)
avatar
agentcarr16: I'm going to put it out there, my stats are way off from what Vitek is claiming. Oh, and if 17 was a typical stat, -1 doesn't really mean much, does it? ]
avatar
HijacK: That's rather high compared to mine.
That's seven people saying their stats are way lower. If one includes the jmich quote above, crows saying he thinks the total points for stats being 15 and myself also saying that's way more than I have, that makes 10 people out of 16 confirming of not haven such a high stat. And vitek claims it's his lowest.
And this time there really is no saying "I didn't mention my pm" or something, because that was unmistakenly a claim of stats.

Now if it was a gambit to do, I don't know what, tell us it's bad to talk pm or get scum to go with it and claim high stats as that or whatever, then please tell us and say it was just a little white lie and your stats aren't really that high. Or say that was the total honest truth and if you don't believe me you have to lynch or investigate me. Don't just let it stand there.
This stuff is really bothering me. On one Hand I get told, you get to catch scum by making their slipping up (ie. catch them in a lie) and on the other hand stuff like this is just totally accepted behaviour.
How will we be able to lynch any scum for a lie after that?

(On refresh: Well dedoporno already said most of it and more, but I worked (too?) long on my post, so I'll post it anyway :P)
EBWOP: I miscounted. (I forgot I quoted the original claim first) it's six people that I quoted so with me and crow and jmich on top, that is 9 people out of 16 indicating 17 as a lowest stat is too high to be believable.
avatar
JMich: Quite the opposite, we do care what you think. We will most likely ignore it, but that is a different case ;)
Ha! I stand corrected!

One point I would make is that I am not so easily convinced the mission will succeed if there are bad guys on board. I don’t know anything about “Battlestar Galactica the Board Game”, but here, I think it’s all about individual players’ styles. If I were Scum, I could not have volunteered for this job fast enough just for the chance to fuck shit up and see what happens… and yeah, LAMIST, I get it, but damn, for real, you know? You know I would. Despite the optics, I gotta say it, because it’s why I won’t assume that a) just taking volunteers is all you need to consider to fill the job with Townies, and b) the mission will succeed regardless of who’s on it. I sorta feel like saying “I’m sure the mission will be a success” out loud is a possible way for one Scumbuddy to send some advice to his pal on the team. Call me paranoid. Since I believe the player selecting the team must be Town (and ineligible to participate himself), I think the best strategy is to ignore the volunteers and the stat reveals and pick based on Towniness. Which, granted, is nearly impossible Day 1, hence why nobody will care anyway!

avatar
dedoporno: That was one potential way to catch scum lying - by claiming stats that don't seem consistent to actual crew members.
Gee, who was trying to say that same thing at the very beginning, before people could mess it up?
avatar
mchack: So rereading post #28, Does that mean you're a boeing is true and confirmable?
Like I said, and you quoted: "I have spoken about the contents of my PM without inaccuracy throughout the entire thread."

That is not contained in my my PM, and I never said it was.

avatar
mchack: (that means I'm expecting a 7?7 (probably 757 or 747) in stats from you) or is the only thing you indirectly told the truth about from your pm, that you have a FIN stat?
It was in reference to my forum reputation at that time. Ignoring this is just being willfully obtuse.

avatar
mchack: So this is just saying stuff completely unrelated to the game? In a reply to the game mod?
Yep.

avatar
mchack: Just to mess with everybody's assumption a player's post would be about the game we are playing together at that moment?
Partly. It was also my way of saying "Look, here are some obviously bullshit stats, can we stop talking about this now?" to the other town players. Some players seemed to get it; interesting that you did not.

avatar
mchack: So whatever you say as long as you don't directly (or obliquely) mention your PM I should just disregard as it's probably not really game related anyway? At least if you're talking about yourself that is.
Well, you could always ask for clarification. You never did ask the right questions.

avatar
mchack: I'm sorry, I like that you actually took the time to answer my questions and I like that you said that you were only telling the truth. Hence why I said "Sounds fun." when you threatened to go after me for LAL reasons. It was highly amusing to me, since there was no possible way I could lose that argument.

avatar
mchack: The Vote stays. Although I am tempted to switch over to Vitek now :/
Predictable.

I'm not so sure about scum volunteering to make the crisis fail this early on. If the crisis fails then everyone on the list looks suspect and will be under a lot of scrutiny. Now as JMich suggested, scum volunteering to help avert the crisis to win town points I could see as a more likely option.

Hehe, well like you have better reasons for your vote.

ok, here it goes:

vote vitek

for the reason mentioned here

yogsloth: If I were Scum, I could not have volunteered for this job fast enough just for the chance to fuck shit up and see what happens… and yeah, LAMIST, I get it, but damn, for real, you know? You know I would.
But that does mean that you believe that if a crisis is averted, all who were in it must have been town. So why mess it up so soon?

yogsloth: Since I believe the player selecting the team must be Town (and ineligible to participate himself), I think the best strategy is to ignore the volunteers and the stat reveals and pick based on Towniness.
Why do you assume that it will always be the same player who chooses?

trentonlf: Now as JMich suggested, scum volunteering to help avert the crisis to win town points I could see as a more likely option.
Why do I have the feeling that you are somehow a mind reader? Could it be that I hadn't mentioned that part before, but only in the post after yours? Or are my memory banks failing me?
avatar
mchack: Hehe, well like you have better reasons for your vote.
Are you saying your reasons are bad? :-)
avatar
mchack: Hehe, well like you have better reasons for your vote.
avatar
Vitek: Are you saying your reasons are bad? :-)
not at all. It's actually just one reason (LAL) and I'd like you explain yourself.
avatar
mchack: ok, I'll try asking better questions, next time.
I like to ask about the 'Why' more than the 'What'. Often in Mafia, in my experience, why someone does something is far more important than what they do. But that is always the trick, isn't it? Figuring out motivations can be challenging.

avatar
mchack: thanks, that's everything cleared up then. Oh man, what a waste of time and energy. :/
I don't know about that. I had fun. :)

avatar
mchack: Hehe, well like you have better reasons for your vote.
Okay. This wasn't a question, but it was the right one. I wasn't actually expecting someone to question me on why my vote is still on yogsloth until closer to a deadline. ;)

The simple answer is that I did have a reason to vote for yogsloth, and I still have the same reason (with some positive reinforcement). Nobody else seems scummier to me currently.
avatar
mchack: not at all. It's actually just one reason (LAL) and I'd like you explain yourself.
What am I supposed to explain?
