AgentBirdnest: So you would play them if they were DRM-free? :-)

Well... As long as it isn't making things worse, I guess it is nice to have some sort of distraction in front of you.

ddickinson: I would. I mentioned earlier to Moon and before to Crow that sometimes that mea and my partner get together with two of my sister-in-laws and we have a nice evening with a few glasses of wine and we play horrible indie games and horrible games. We just joke and have fun with the game, making fun of how bad the game is and highlighting all the terrible stuff, which with Xbox indie games seems to be a lot of sexism and stuff. I think we would have some giggles with a lesbian Nazi game and how terrible it would be. But would I play it seriously myself? Not a chance in hell would I play anything like that normally outside of making fun of it with my partner.

It is nice, although I do try my hand at lots of other stuff to keep me occupied, but I have to be careful what I can do and to make sure I don't push myself too hard while I am stuck at home as that will make my partner worry if I do more than I should.
Joel from Vinesauce and Matt and Pat all love to take a look at terrible XBL Indie games, hilarity ensues.
And The Witcher books are one of the best dark fantasy novels ever.

AgentBirdnest: Oh yeah, I saw that conversation. It's nice you can get together and laugh about games like that.
By the way, I did notice the rather obvious chest of the woman at the beginning of Risen. I guess that's no surprise though, since I'm the audience for that :-p I notice those types of things (like bikini armour *rolls eyes*) and used to let it bother me, but these days I don't take any entertainment too seriously. I'll just have fun and try to laugh at the silly things.
I think it is very rare that developers intentionally try to be sexist or hurtful. I think they are just idiots. And being an idiot myself, I can relate to that ;-p
Oh, I see. You see Moon implying I am some boob obsessed pervert making it all up and you knew it as well? Why did you not come to my defence? :-)

I have no problem with that kind of stuff if it is in context, if it is a game like Leisure Suit Larry then okay, but so many "serious" games do it and it just looks silly. But then I don't really let it bother me at all, that kind of thing is everywhere, not just in games. I would argue about that, I think a lot of it is done intentionally, maybe not to be sexist, but they go out of their way to do all the skimpy dressed women and things. I guess horny teenage boys must buy a lot of games. :-)

Because I was enjoying my popcorn :-) ... (and sometimes I feel bad about butting into conversations I'm not a part of... even though I know this is a Free-For-All, I still obsess sometimes.)

Yes, it's usually done intentionally. I think most of the time, they just don't realize "this could be offensive". Do first, and think later, like a good idiot :-) I guess it isn't a good excuse for it though. They really should know better. (I have no idea though, I've never been involved in developing or marketing games.)

And here I was thinking you were a gentleman. :-(
And feel free to take part, you are always welcome to, it was not as though it was a private topic.

I do think some people blow it out of proportion and make it seem worse than it is, but it is quite bad if you look at it. Crow suggested they should start packing games with male eye-candy characters, and then we will see how quickly the male players start to complain after seeing fully clothed women and nothing but half naked and shallowly developed male characters. :-)

If you think game are not sexist, ask yourself why Assassin Creed did not have a female character, or why many of the GTA games and many others don't, despite the fact that 50% of gamers are women. The problem is that some overly feminists have made it seem like women just complaining, but in reality the game industry is often sexist, especially considering that 50% share of gamers being women. But we had better stop before we attract those who like to turn these kind of talks nasty and not just a polite and civilised discussion.

Hello You All ! ;)

I just got home and for unknown reasons was too exhausted to get into much, so I read a bit of what's been talked over the day.
I read Moon's two reviews and am very happy about this sort of reviewing! :)

To the current conversation that I quickly part-read: have you seen Conan O'Brien's Witcher 3 review on Clueless Gamer?
I'm not sure if he's a genius or an idiot :)

I agree. I guess I just got tired of arguing about it all. Both sides of the argument would just piss me off, so now, I just try to enjoy my games and not worry about things. I do like the idea of putting male-eye candy characters into games. If I recall correctly, Gauntlet Legends had some skimpy armour on the female characters, but equally skimpy on the males too, which I always appreciated.

Anyway... Yes, November is a nice month...

I agree with pretty much all of this. The general attitude seems to be that women need to stop whining and just get over it, but I don't think that's right, given that there is indeed still a lot of sexism, whether more or less pronounced. I don't mind 'sexy' characters as long as the scale tips both ways. I quite enjoy the Saints Row series, for instance, because the 'sexiness' for male and female characters is about the same there. Sure, women get a breast slider, but men have a crotch slider, and stuff like that. :P

I remember one thread on the saving the princess trope in video games where someone argued that all the guys meant well; after all, they were just trying to save the girl because they wanted to help her, not because they wanted to have sex with her. And I kept thinking: but what if we women don't want to be rescued? What if we'd like to rescue ourselves for a change? :P

I understand that. I don't normally comment on such things that much openly as people overreact and are not willing to accept someone else's optioning other than their own. But you see, that is the point. If both where dressed like that then cool, but often the guy is in full plate armour (the wimps :-)), while the women are wearing a bikini (kick-arse :-)).

November is a nice month. :-)

But sadly a few have ruined it, those small few who make a fuss over nothing and demeaned the general concept behind it all. As I said earlier, it is about he tone of the game as well, if it fits the style of the game then okay, but often it doesn't, like that female character from the new Metal Gear Solid game, that was just cheap eye-candy.

I do kind of agree with the guys over the princess trope sometimes. Not always, but sometimes. You see games are made mostly by men, so they make what they know, and the whole rescue the maiden is something they read about in fairytales from a young age. It often is not about sex or anything, just them being heroic and saving the damsel. It would be nice for them to mix it up a little, maybe have the woman save the guy, or the princess escape on her own. But I think a lot of the problem is how it is handles, not necessarily the plot or the game, but how they handle the female characters' looks, behaviour, and other things like that. They don't have to make all women sluts, or weak and feeble. By all means keep your damsel in distress story, but at least have some class to it.

Anyway, how are you today, are you feeling any better after your operation? Is it all going well?

Age of Sigmar never happened,it ended when The End Times hit.
BTW,I took a look at some of the XBL Indie games. My thought were "What AM I doing with my life?"
Then I played Cho Aniki, the king of kusoges to go back to sanity.

Just like feminism has somehow become a dirty word even though the movement is good and necessary in my view. Sadly, however, the term seems to have become linked with a hatred of men somehow, which is not at all what it's about.

I have no problem with that trope, as long as things get mixed up sometimes. People need saving every once in a while, women too. But as you say, that does not mean all the women have to be the same. Some can rescue themselves or even men. As long as there's a balance between the different portrayals I think it's fine.

I'm okay, right now it's like having a really severe cold. :) And the nose rinses still kind of hurt, but I'll get over that. I'm unfortunately super busy, though. There are so many deadlines that I'm not even sure how I'm going to manage celebrating my own birthday next week and attending my own graduation after that. :P

It's the same with any debate. Not many people are willing to sit in the middle and listen to both sides.
I admit, there is even one political topic that I get very passionate about and I have difficulty listening to the other side. So I decided to stop talking about that one :-)
Gauntlet Legends was a very arcadey-game. Not realistic at all, so the skimpy outfits "fit" very well.
