ddickinson: I don't think people worry about it too much, it is never expected of people, and the two lists helps with those who might want to get you something but can't spare a lot. But even if they can't get you anything then a nice happy birthday on the 26th will be just as good. The gifting tradition is just some extra fun that Agent started. :-)

I am doing about the same, I had a bad episode over the weekend which is taking its toll a little, but I am doing as well as can be expected. I was supposed to be getting some more tests and things done today, but they have all been moved to the end of the week, which is good as I can get them all done at once and not have to travel several days.

*big hug*
Haha, that's absolutely true. Just wanted to make completely sure. :)

Good that they were able to move the tests, going up and down to the hospital all the time gets tiresome pretty quickly as well. Hopefully those tests will allow them to help you better.

*superpowered hug*

BillyMaysFan59: in honor of my 2nd GoGversary I am tentatively returning to the forums. Probably won't post very much unless the NES 40000000 situation (and the general hostility in the community as of late) finally goes to bed. But still....

Hi Billy, good to see you.

AgentBirdnest: Afraid? Never! We're men! We are never afraid!
*sees spider* EEEEK >__< *hides under blanket*

(No problem. I have a secret weapon that nobody can resist.)
What is wrong with spiders, they are nice? I saw a place when I was on my little vacation down in the South of England that was selling spiders as food, tinned spiders in salt I think.

Hello, BMF!

it is so great to see you, even if it will only be now and then. I hope you have been doing well?

AgentBirdnest: Plenty of good Mormon jokes, but I doubt you would get many laughs :-p
Now you've got me curious. ;) Well, considering that we're also doing theories of humor I guess we could just analyze why people don't laugh if it comes to that. :P

Good to see you! How are you doing? :) And yep, the scammer situation is beginning to wear pretty thin, so I try to avoid those threads myself.

moonshineshadow: Of course it was Agents fault, it is not like this whole topic originated from someone else. Wait wasn't that you? :P
*laughing hug*
Oh and it won't disappoint me since I don't expect anything, I am just curious because I can't remember noticing that at all.
avatar
ddickinson: Maybe, but you made it a topic. I mentioned it as an off-the-cuff remark, you made an issue out of it. So it was your fault. :-)

She had better be there, she was in the demo. :-)
Your remarks about Risen were about the control and boobs. I just answered you on both points :P

But on a serious note. You only played a demo? Hmm... I need to find that and try it, perhaps the control problem is only related to the demo.

That would probably mark the first time I'd be frightened of food, then. ;)

FearfulSymmetry: Christmas is not as big over here as it is in some other countries, I think, as we also have a different celebration at the start of December. Still, didn't keep the city from putting up festive lights and other decorations two weeks ago. And I've already spotted a christmas tree here and there in some warehouses.
It has strangely mutated in many countries, as things tied to religion are wont to do. It's a purely commercial holiday in Japan, and may as well be here in The States, given how many people here practice "words not deeds" as their creed. But I'm trying not to be Scrooge-y. :)

Afraid I don't have a great storehouse of jokes, and most of the ones I know are not suitable for all audiences or have a performance component. But here's an old chestnut I often trot out when pressed for one:

"What's the difference between a dead rat in the road and a dead lawyer in the road?"

"Skidmarks before the rat."

:)

ddickinson: I think people are in the mood earlier due to Trent's Secret Santa. The gifts need to be in before christmas so I think he wanted to get an early start on it.
Ach, I didn't come across that thread yet. Will have to hunt it out, ta!

Okay, my second argument. Today you come back to the thread and chat more (which is so great!), and we end up talking about boobs. If you look back while you were away there were no boobs, I think. So you must be a bad influence. *silly hug*

I think it was just me, I have not played many games like Risen so it was just probably that. I will give it another try someday just in case I was having a bad gamer day.

I have some crocodile burgers and Kangaroo steaks in my freezer (seriously), as well as some sausages made form boars instead of regular pigs. I am looking forwards to trying all of them. :-)

Yep, it's definitely taken on a life of its own. I don't think it's very religious here in the Netherlands, but it's not completely commercial either, as the gift-giving normally occurs on December 5 (Sinterklaas) for most families here. I think there's been an increase in popularity when it comes to giving presents on Christmas, but at least when I was younger that was not really done. Most people here just have a nice dinner with friends and family on Christmas day, I think, and put up a tree and some decorations.

That's a pretty good one! Thanks. :)

That sounds exotic but not frightening (I know, it's weird that spiders creep me out while rats and snakes and crocodiles don't). I've never had any of those, so do let me know what they're like when you get around to trying them. :P

I agree with you, well about the spider at least. I mean, there is not much meat insects so why bother. Rats and snakes I could eat, as there can be some nice meat on them. I love trying new things so I will eat pretty much anything, or at least try them. We wanted to wait until my stomach was a little better before we try them, but I will of course let you know. My brother brought them back recently from a farmers market he went to that had a lot of exotic foods.

Pfff... I'll just go away again. You start all this boob talk and now want to make it my fault. You meanie *goes to hide*

But perhaps it is really a problem of the demo, if I have some spare time one of these evenings or on Sunday I'll check that out.
Oo, ta!

America has a wealth of lawyer jokes, thanks to our baroque legal system where money == justice. Here's another you've probably heard some variant of:

"What do you call 500 lawyers chained together at the bottom of the ocean?"

"A good start."

Please come back, I am sowwy. :'-(

It was the Steam demo, if that is of any help. Please don't go out of your way, it is nothing important. But thank you.

ddickinson: I hope you have been doing well?
For the most part, yes.

By the way, did y'all enjoy that Fall sale? I got a taste of it: grabbed a couple single deals (Wasteland and Europe Universalis 2) because they were so cheap. Didn't get any bundles though.

I've heard it said that insects are quite nutritious but I could never really be bothered to try it out for myself. :P I'm not a big fan of meat anyway (I just don't like the taste overmuch) so I tend to stick to basic things. And yep, best be careful! One can never know when that crocodile meat decides to take a bite out of you. :)

Yep, I've heard that one (and a couple of other ones as well). I guess each country pokes fun at different things. For some reason Belgians are usually the butt of jokes around here, maybe because the Netherlands feels a certain sense of rivalry with Belgium?

Another nice Christmas-y tradition that we have here just came to mind as well. Between Christmas and New Year more than half of the population of the Netherlands tunes in to the radio broadcast of the 'Top 2000', a collection of the 2000 most popular songs as voted by the Dutch. It's a lot of fun and for many people listening to it it has become something of a tradition. There's even a television program about the radio broadcast while it lasts.
