l0rdtr3k: Let me say that you'll not be disapointed.
And do you know a good Warhammer Fantasy novel I can buy? As much as I adore Tolkien,I prefer dark fantasy over heroic.
And when I said that most of our interarctions consists of hugging,I wasn't kidding
*healing hugs*
I am not sure to be honest, I never really read any Warhammer Fantasy novels, at least none that I can remember that well. Shame though how Games Workshop have ended Warhammer Fantasy now after all these years.
*hugs*
superstande: Hello You All ! ;)
I just got home and for unknown reasons was too exhausted to get into much, so I read a bit of what's been talked over the day.
I read Moon's two reviews and am very happy about this sort of reviewing! :)
To the current conversation that I quickly part-read: have you seen Conan O'Brien's Witcher 3 review on Clueless Gamer?
I'm not sure if he's a genius or an idiot :)
Hello! How are you today?
AgentBirdnest: I'll be sure to join in next time :-p
I agree. I guess I just got tired of arguing about it all.
Both sides of the argument would just piss me off, so now, I just try to enjoy my games and not worry about things. I do like the idea of putting male-eye candy characters into games. If I recall correctly, Gauntlet Legends had some skimpy armour on the female characters, but equally skimpy on the males too, which I always appreciated.
Anyway... Yes, November is a nice month...
I understand that. I don't normally comment on such things that much openly as people overreact and are not willing to accept someone else's optioning other than their own. But you see, that is the point. If both where dressed like that then cool, but often the guy is in full plate armour (the wimps :-)), while the women are wearing a bikini (kick-arse :-)).
November is a nice month. :-)
FearfulSymmetry: I agree with pretty much all of this. The general attitude seems to be that women need to stop whining and just get over it, but I don't think that's right, given that there is indeed still a lot of sexism, whether more or less pronounced. I don't mind 'sexy' characters as long as the scale tips both ways. I quite enjoy the Saints Row series, for instance, because the 'sexiness' for male and female characters is about the same there. Sure, women get a breast slider, but men have a crotch slider, and stuff like that. :P
I remember one thread on the saving the princess trope in video games where someone argued that all the guys meant it well; after all, they were just trying to save the girl because they wanted to help her, not because they wanted to have sex with her. And I kept thinking: but what if we women don't want to be rescued? What if we'd like to rescue ourselves for a change? :P
But sadly a few have ruined it, those small few who make a fuss over nothing and demeaned the general concept behind it all. As I said earlier, it is about he tone of the game as well, if it fits the style of the game then okay, but often it doesn't, like that female character from the new Metal Gear Solid game, that was just cheap eye-candy.
I do kind of agree with the guys over the princess trope sometimes. Not always, but sometimes. You see games are made mostly by men, so they make what they know, and the whole rescue the maiden is something they read about in fairytales from a young age. It often is not about sex or anything, just them being heroic and saving the damsel. It would be nice for them to mix it up a little, maybe have the woman save the guy, or the princess escape on her own. But I think a lot of the problem is how it is handles, not necessarily the plot or the game, but how they handle the female characters' looks, behaviour, and other things like that. They don't have to make all women sluts, or weak and feeble. By all means keep your damsel in distress story, but at least have some class to it.
Anyway, how are you today, are you feeling any better after your operation? Is it all going well?
