CarrionCrow: Glad to hear things are going well, both in general and with the computer crap you've been dealing with.

Well, I'm not too far from the finish, thank the gods. The game is absolutely another example of the current trend of "let's make it challenging first and foremost".
That's all fine and good, but it sure as hell doesn't make the game fun. Designers don't seem to be able to pull off the balancing act between difficulty and actual enjoyment to save their lives.

Stilton: Enforced difficulty levels have always been a bugbear of mine. Give me a slider that goes from 'Wallflower' to 'King Kong' and I'm happy working my way up to the right level of challenge. Being hit over the head with an iron bar from the off just makes me uninstall and look for something more amenable. I've seen enough iron bars to know it hurts ;-)
Yeah, some flexibility to it would increase the number of people who end up playing the game, I'm sure.

This is the backlash to years of designers and developers dumbing down games so much that there's now a market for items that are make you scream difficult.
In a way I can respect it, but I would never be able to say something like Meat Boy is fun with a straight face.
It's all about the feeling of beating something that looks unbeatable. It has nothing else to bring to the table.

Sometimes its like sparring with Mike Tyson - you're curious about your chances while at the same time knowing you'll be looking for your head for the next few days ;-)

And your ears...

Stilton: Adalia! How's the food biz? Have you been out today?
Not bad at all, we weren't out today but we were out last night and did really well. A nice new regular pitch so things are looking positive in general.

avatar
CarrionCrow: Good review, I'll be sure to wait until it hits a nice big discount to get it from GOG, then clear my plate and slog my way through it.
Thanks. Funny thing is, I thought I'd enjoyed it more until I started thinking about it a few days ago knowing I was going to finish and write a review... XD
It's not a bad game by any means, but it certainly lacks polish.

GhostwriterDoF: It's never too late to start working out for your summer beach body best,
or prepping for your summer lounge around the buffet table zest...
whichever fits your style of seasonal celebratory way.

Good day to all, and well wishes too!

Alas, Starpoint Gemini 2 on a 50 % off sale was too much temptation for me to resist.

but at least I was able to scratch one off the wishlist.

I hope all of you are well, and taking good care of yourselves. :)
Do you really think this perfect eye needs improvement? Or that there's room for improvement? ;-P

Hope you're doing well yourself. :-)
And congrats on getting one off of the wishlist! Now you have to find a good replacement to take its place. ;-)

And hello to everyone that joined since I last was here, hope things are going well for you all.

To me it's just a big pain in the ass and a reminder to pay closer attention to what I'm thinking of buying/renting before I actually do it.

Might say to hell with it, delete everything I'm not having fun with and play something enjoyable instead.

That happens sometimes...you stack up experiences, and when it's all done you can end up with a huge pile of things that were bad, but you slogged through them all anyway.

In the past that's been as rewarding to me at times as sticking with a thing and slogging on to the bitter end for whatever elation I might feel. There's been a great sense of release from things I've felt have been almost torturing me ;-) Hell, I'm in control of this thing ;-)

Yeah... but I suppose if you don't notice the problems until the end it must be doing something right, to distract you from that fact...

Just started Halfway now, seems fun but I'd hoped for a bit more instruction... going to have to see if there is some kind of manual as I barely know what I'm doing... :/

Thank god i'm not alone. Had the same problem.
Where are the ladies tonight? There's a locker room feel about things...

I had hoped there might be a little tutorial or something, but it's just straight in, this is move, this is shoot off you go!
And it doesn't play quite like other tactical RPGs so it's hard to know what to do.

Oh well, I'll figure it out XD

I'll try to do so as well when i've more time.

There's no manual that I can see... so if I figure anything out I'll let you know :)
Just seems to be hide in cover, point and shoot so far. There are some extra abilities each character has, but I'm not sure whether it's an RPG or not and if they level up... :/
