You're mistaken. It has a range of meanings, and is most commonly used to denote grammatical categories pertaining to masculinity and femininity.

You can use them interchangeably, and the secondary characteristics of gender is based on physical biology anyway. In dictionaries one of the definitions of gender listed is 'sex'. Trying to use them NOT interchangeably just muddies the language, that's part of the problem I have with the pronoun use in this game, and frankly society in general.

In this game you cannot pick what gender you ARE, only what gender you're CALLED. Consider two examples: In the first, you have someone who is biologically male that wants to be called 'he'. In the second, you have someone who is biologically female but wants to be called 'he'. In both instances the pronoun used is 'he', but they have different genders. The pronoun used to describe them is insufficient to determine what their actual physical gender is. I'd be okay, in the name of inclusivity, for them to be able to choose a different pronoun than their gender if they like.

What I'm not okay with is ignoring physical reality entirely for everyone, including those whose pronouns match their gender. You cannot make a character with a defined gender in this game, they force every character to have an ambiguous gender. It's insidiously subversive, and an attack on reason itself and objective reality.

Those two are actually the same thing, as it turns out. (Well, technically, it's what gender you prefer to be called, not necessarily the one you actually are called, that is the same as your gender.)

They are not the same thing. There's a difference between calling someone what they want to be called out of respect, and saying that they literally are what they want to be called.

Calling a cat a car doesn't make that cat a car in reality, it just makes it a cat that you're calling a car. It's important to know the difference between an actual car, or a cat that you're calling a car, if you're going to be able to know what someone means when they say 'car'. Words have specific meanings.
