Trepang2 - Banger Edition

Let me start off by saying I'm a Doom 2016 fan and a F.E.A.R. fan, and this game felt like a mixture of both. I'd even say more Doom than F.E.A.R. but that's me. Played the demo earlier this year and knew this would be great. Very impressive visually with the ragdolls, blood, gore, and dismemberment. That is definitely the point of the game and the area the devs focused on. This game is FUN. Not pretentious, but down-to-earth and knows its strengths. Level design was simple with some good stuff here and there, but good enough to keep me immersed in the world. Story was not in your face, the game focuses on the gameplay, but if you pay attention to the intel pieces you will unravel an interesting plot with a cool twist at the end. Sound design was great to my ears, weapons sounded powerful and meaty, lots of voicelines and callouts from the enemy soldiers. The dynamic range must be high because even when I tried to lower the volume, my ears would ring when done playing lol the way I like it: immersive and aggressive. Soundtrack was a banger with some Doom 2016-sounding tracks. The music amped the action perfectly. Enemy AI was pretty good, I remember being encircled many times. Played on Hard btw. Didn't just stand and soak bullets like CoD. Gunplay was great and fit the CQC action perfectly, the SPAS-12 was the standout gun, that thing was a downright powerhouse. The only other gun that stood out was the DMR, a necessity when you were at range. The others filled a "use-when-SPAS/DMR-are-out-of-ammo" role but were still enjoyable. Vector in particular. My only real gripe is stamina for running, I'd prefer that be infinite, becuase the stop-and-go when you are not in combat really feels inconsistent and frustrating. I also found a sprint glitch/oddity where if you start a run strafing, you will keep walking. You have to press "W" first. REALLY annoying, hopefully that can be patched. All-in-all, it's a must-play game of 2023, made by 4 dudes who have a BRIGHT future.

The soundtrack is worth the little extra you'll pay over the base edition.

I bought the Banger Edition on launch. The game is fun enough if a little bit short. I then recently discovered that the edition sold in store had a season pass added, while the one I own seem to have vanished, leaving only the standard edition in my library. I bought the game at launch to support the devs just to end up paying the same price for a now inferior product compared to what is offered now.

For me this is the same level as Nina: Agent Chronicles with slightly better graphics. Shooting feelijng is terible, controls are very basic. It has some horror vibes with some enviromental puzzles but in general shooting is a main part of a game and this sucks. After aprox. 1h I just gave up.
