When I'm in the monastery after ringing the seventh bell, I click on the rope and the game pauses (mouse still moves) for about a minute and then the game completely crashes. I've tried using the Windows version, too, and that doesn't seem to help at all... Any suggestions?

I had a very similar experience in the final step in the conservatory, but I just restarted the game and it played normally for me the second time. Did you give the gog version a second try before going to the windows one?

Yeah, I've tried the standard GOG version and the Windows version tens of times. GOG support asked me to send them my savegame but I haven't heard anything from them in like a month. I'm getting close to giving up at this point :(
Wow, sorry, I know it's frustrating. Here's what I'm thinking. If the exact same thing is happening on two different versions, then maybe it's your system. Some obscure setting or something. Tell you what, post exactly what system you are using, along with os, and I'll try and help you by doing some searches in the next couple of days and see if I can find any fixes on the web.
That's awesome of you! Thank you! Here's my DXDIAG information. I can also email you my savegame or something if that would help!

Do me a favor and describe the crash in a bit more detail: you enter the code for the 7th bell, and then....?
