I have got some issues with the sound in Zork Nemesis. I looked through all the threads on this board but did not find a solution that worked for me. Hopefully somebody can help me.

This is the issue I have: During the game after a short while (a few seconds to a couple of minutes after starting the game, Intro plays fine) a rattling sound starts in the background. It goes away sometimes and comes back again when I travel between screens. Eventually however it will stray until I quit Dosbox and start gain.

I know the of the sound stuttering issues in Dosbox when the buffer is set to low and this is not the same problem. The sound and music of the game play alright I just have this rattling sound in the background too. A bit difficult to explain but I hope you get what I am trying to describe.

Anybody else have this problem and know how to resolve it? Unfortunately it is too distracting from me to enjoy the game.

I am running Windows 7 64 bit and these are my Dosbox configs:

Try changing cycles to max, output to openGL, blocksize to 4096. A rattling like that in the background is usually an issue where the sound and game aren't syncing perfectly, I get it with a few games (not GOG, my own personal collection) on default settings, but those settings I listed seem to fix it.
Thank you for the tips. That seems to have improved the situation significantly.

Now, the only issue I have is short sound dropouts when I change from one screen to the other. At least the constant background noise seems to be gone.
How do you access this information?
I'm getting the same rattling sounds I think, but I've never used DosBox before, and I don't really know how to do anything with it.
There is a configuration file in the directory Zork Nemesis is installed. In my case it can be found here:

C:\Program Files (x86)\GOG.com\Zork Nemesis - The Forbidden Lands\dosboxZorkNemesis.conf

You have to open this in a text editor and then you can change the settings by editing the file and saving it. Better make a backup copy of the file before changing it though.
Thank you very much!
Now I'll know what to do next time I have this problem ^__^
I also experienced this problem. However, I am running it in Boxer on my Macbook so Gremmi's instructions did not work. Does anyone have any suggestions?

EDIT: Nevermind. I think I figured it out.

For anyone having the same issue and ending up here, the dosbox manual suggests a fixed cycle setting for all dosbox games that have stuttering. I set Nemesis to 100000 and it works when this other fix did not. Just an FYI
