Hi. Does the GOG version of Anthology contain the other Infocom classic games, like the disc release?

To explain: I have the disc version of Anthology, which I found in my Zork Legacy box (which also includes Return and Nemesis). While it should contain only the 5 old Zork games, there's actually a folder with the data files for many other games as well.

These are all playable by replacing any of the Zork 1/3 games data files (doesn't work with Beyond and Zero, which have their own executable, probably because they use more advanced systems), although I have to wonder if this was intended or not. Given the roundabout method required to start them, I guess not. My box doesn't have the "Planetfall included" notice, and indeed there's no direct executable for Planetfall, although it's in that folder like most of the other games. No AMFV or Leather Goddesses though, probably because they required a more advanced Z-Machine. I wonder if these were left in the disc as an oversight, but I can't imagine why they would have been there in the first place.

Anyway, does the GOG version still have this folder, or was it removed?

The GOG.com version only has the five games (1,2,3,0,Beyond) and Planetfall.
So they were removed. I wonder why they were in the disc in the first place?

Probably Activision being greedy and thinking about another release of games on here. I LOVE these old text adventures and would like more released officially especially the Douglas Adams games Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy and Bureaucracy. Have them on my phone but it be nice to pay and see them on my gog shelf.

I'm not 100% but I believe that Activision no longer has the rights to HHGTTG, that it reverted from Infocom to Douglas Adams. It's up on the BBC's site]on the BBC's site ...

even on the lost treasures of infocom ios page that HHGTTG and Shogun are both missing. I think both Adams and Clavell must have had a deal where the rights revert to them after so many years.

But that's speculation on my part.
I am still holding out for Deadline.

Assuming there are different versions of Anthology, the original version only had five Zork games, and Planetfall.

If there were others they were undocumented?

Also not to be confused with the Masterpieces and Lost Treasures collections which also had many assorted games (certain games appearing in one collection, but not another, or some missing due to copyright issues). There has been no complete collection of early Infocom games as far as I know?

Yes, they are undocumented. Not just that, but they aren't even supposed to be usable. The box doesn't say anything about them and there are no executables for those games in the main folder.

You can only find the data files by rummaging in the folders. Since they have no executables, you must use one of the Zork executables and rename the dat file you want to use. It works, although it's obvious that you are not supposed to do that.

What I don't understand is why the data files were there in the first place. Perhaps different versions of the Anthology had different bonus games or something. My own disc doesn't have an executable Planetfall either (and there's no "free game included" sticker on the corner), which means there are indeed different versions of the Anthology out there.

That's why I was asking if maybe the Anthology version on GOG actually has them. If anyone bought the game on GOG, you can check the folders and see if there's a data folder with all the different dat files, like in the picture I linked.

I've checked. Mine doesn't have any bonus games.
