Hey-yas!

I'm an old Zork vet and thought I'd grab GOG's Zorks whilst they're still completely undervalued and see how quickly I could speedrun Beyond Zork.

Has anyone finished this GOG version of Beyond Zork?

All was well right up to the 'final' puzzle involving the bubble mirrors. No matter what I do I can not get the light to shine down the corridors. I thought perhaps I'd forgotten the solution but walkthroughs suggest turning the mirror to allow the angle of reflection to be 90° from the angle of incidence (i.e. if the light's coming from north, and the corridor goes west, then turn the mirror north-west) and yet none of the permutations of this work (systematically turning 2 mirrors through all 64 direction combinations did nothing).

I've placed mirrors at both the "Shady Wall" (outside) and in the first underground area "Underground".

As you can imagine getting to that point and hitting a wall during a speedrun is slightly more than frustrating so any help would be greatly appreciated :)

Cheers!

Edit: Ahhh, I was after the "Rock Wall", not the "Shady Wall". It all makes sense now. And after only 6 months :p

12 years later, I am having the exact same trouble and it's doing my head in.

There's a "shady wall" where I said the magic word to enter, then the first room inside is titled "underground". I don't know what location the "rock wall", but this driving me crazy!!!

EDIT: Ok, I figured it out too. So it turns out there are TWO entrances to the underground. One is on the mainland, near the towns. Its entrance is called "shady wall". But if you hope in the Gondola and go into the jungle, then head to near where you saved the Minx, there's a SECOND entrance. It's just called "rock wall". You have to use the mirrors at this second entrance.

No, the "Shady Wall" will not help you with this puzzle, as the room name implies:) (Don't feel bad. I originally made the same mistake back when I first played the game in 10th grade in 1990. I can't remember if reading the "Shady Wall" vs. "Rock Wall" room descriptions provide any hints for the puzzle. It's been a very long time since I played it.)
