Just saw that Zak McKracken is now available here.

But which version is it?

I have the original MS-Dos version and it looks a bit different from the screens shown here, at least the first screen with Zaks kitchen which seems to have other colors and markings.
At least i remember the sofa being purplish and the rug green instead of brown. Also i remember no stripes on the wall, and a different font used for the verbs and inventory.
This is obviously the FM-Towns version. The VGA version made for a Japanese computer.

Its the best version IMO, and its fully in English just like the classic version.

But there are some differences. Such as easier mazes in the game.

The original PC version is EGA. Although I wouldn't mind that version also be included...

Looks to be the FM-Towns version with VGA graphics and I assume CD audio music.
Which is pretty awesome, considering it was Japan-only and extremely rare. I think I saw a copy sell for about $1000 on eBay once. Glad to finally be able to play it legally at a low price!
FM Towns is the best version of the game

good work gog

The FM-Towns version?
I have heard from it and seen screens, but in that version all characters looket a bit manga-style.

And wasn't FM-Towns a different kind of system? Does that mean, it has been made compatible to DosBox or ScummVM?

Now that would certainly entice me to buy this version, it looks superior to the MS-Dos version.

Just one other question: I am from Germany, so now gog.com presents itself in German, it also says on the article page for Zak that the extras are in German. But I would prefer the English version (I have the German old gamebox and newspaper at home) oder do I get both, when i buy it?
FM Towns version has updated VGA graphics if you play it in English mode, but they look like the original graphics just more colors.

I don't know if the Japanese mode changes the 'graphics' or not. BUt this is definitely the FM-Towns version. I have played it in the past using ScummVM.

It is both the FM-Towns version, and the V2 DOS-version (selectable on launch through the ScummVM launcher).

As for language, it is only the english version as far as I can see (says so on the game page, and the version I got when I downloaded just now, was english-only).

Newspaper is provided in both german and english.

Ah, so I remembered right.

Good then that the FM-Towns version provided here has normal eyes. Better even that you get FM-Towns and Dos version and the newspaper in Englisch and German.
So this is a must for me.

Ah, nice, so the German version of the game will be uploaded soon, too!
Amazingly enough, I started playing this for the first time this weekend. I tried the included FM Towns version first. It was great - better graphics and sound. But after playing for a few hours, I decided to switch over to the DOS V2 version instead (included also, look for the link mentioning "Floppy Disk"). It had slightly lower grade graphics, but to be honest, I found it to be better. Some of the puzzles require finding things on the screen which I felt were much more obscure to find in the FM Towns 256-color version. And I felt like I was playing the game more like the original developers intended. I highly recommend people try both versions.

I also noted that the FM Towns version changes some of the non-consequential references. There are lots of references to the Indy games in the FM Towns version, not in the DOS V2 version.

Also - to people unfamiliar with ScummVM - learn the keystrokes you will need:

Most importantly (to me):

Ctrl-F5 (Save/Load/Quit/Options Game Menu)
Alt-Enter (Switch between Full Screen and Windowed Mode)

Note the in-game save/load didn't work for me, I had to use the ScummVM save load with Ctrl-F5.
