There was words about local coop but only on Steam. The description says it can be enabled by the "-coop" startup parameter. My question is this was also added here on GOG?

I just came here to ask this: by reading the news it seems to be an experimental MP and PC exclusive.

With that said, I have purchased ys viii during this luanr sale, but I have yet to download it, because I'm waiting a response for both the state of HD texture and this MP mode :/

The Steam version most definitelly have this feature because we tried it at my friend. Buggy, unoptimized but extremely fun. However I not plan buying the game on Steam or installing Galaxy because I don't want to use clients when I just want to play a game so I'm waiting for response here as well.

Out of curiosity, how does it works when you tried it?

Exactly as the changelog stated (at least the official one). Sadly it need two controllers and will not work with keyboard + mouse and controller. Then have to start the game with the "-coop" parameter. When in the game just press start on the secondary controller.

The coop is very oldschool in this. Both players move on a single screen making it some tight situations as chaotic as hell and everything is shared between the two players. If you finished the bonus dungeon you have to make sure at least two of the characters are active. We haven't tried remapping the second controller I don't know if it is possible. AI controller team members receive half damage but if a second player take control of it that defense is removed from the given character. Interesting things may happen like tossing around each other or whatever physics based madness. XD

Yeah I've read about the 2 gamepad requirements, I wonder if this would work through parsec, because if so, this could be truly interesting.

As far the -coop parameter, durante said that for GOG version you just have to run the game directly from the exe, without mentioning the parameter at all, which is kinda odd (but better, since I don't need to mess with parameters).

Btw thanks for the detailed info!

It may work we never tried Parsec for anything. I wish someone can share info about this. But sounds like coop is here. Anyway you're welcome. :)

I wish the same. Ah well, thanks again!
Hi everyone, I just tried playing with 2 ps4 controllers and was not able to get the 2nd player in at all. I even tried using DS4 and using HidHide to hide the Dualshock 4 controllers so It would appear as a xinput device. It didn't work for the GOG version. Can anyone else comment on if they were able to get their GOG copy to work with the local coop? For context I didn't use the "-coop" parameter as GOG doesn't offer that feature. Thanks.

To be honest coop don't always work on Steam either. It worked for first, then after an update it became broken, and then worked once again just to not work after an another update, so I stopped following it and my friend don't play the game anymore. I'm happy with the singleplayer game on console and at least work flawlessly. As far as I can tell the Steam forum states that coop works at the moment but no info about the GOG release and there is quite a bit of difference between the date of the last update, but once it's unknown if it is the same version but delayed or something exclusive. Nowdays PC releases are confusing for me.

both gog and steam versions are the same.

also I don't have a 2nd controller to test if they co-op works. Might try and check if it works with the keyboard and update my post here with the results.

EDIT: It seems that it can only be done with 2 controllers. You can't do it with a keyboard so no way for me to check if it works.
Did you try following the instructions on this video? You have to use the -coop parameter or else it won't work. You can do it through galaxy or if you use the offline installers you can do it from the .exe location
