I play as that "mage" character and it is a bit painful that I can't just hold the attack button instead of tapping it.
Is there some way to enable some sort of turbo controller thing?

Kinda late but I recently faced the same problem.

I've found a solution in using the tool "JoyToKey" (https://joytokey.net/en/). You can assign auto-fire to a button of your choice, I'm using RT on my Xbox One Controller.
