I mean, the original is Cel-Shaded, which gives it a timeless look. More importantly though, it ends on a cliffhanger. Why remake the first game when it doesn't need a visual upgrade and DOES need more to the existing story?

The only benefit a remake could have over the original is if they brought all the multiplayer content from the different versions into the one package (and they better not THINK about removing those glorious multiplayer bots).

Oh and a mission select screen is pretty important too. I still can't figure out why the original forgot to include one.
i think it's being made by a different dev, so i suppose that they're trying to make a remake in order to better control the lore.
There are three reasons I can think of.

What you have to keep in mind is that the original XIII was released in 2003. It released to positive, albeit somewhat lukewarm, reviews. The game didn't sell well, either, so they scrapped whatever plans they had for a sequel. While XIII is now considered to be somewhat of a cult classic, it's following isn't big enough to warrant a full sequel.

The three reasons I've come up with are as follows:

1) A remake is much, much cheaper. Especially when it's just a visual overhaul with none of the changes being fundamental. A sequel would be cool, but I'm assuming they went with a remake because it's the safer option.
2) Releasing a remake means they have the rights in case they want to make a sequel.
3) Releasing a remake reinvigorates interest in the original game and, if possible, a sequel.

I'm worried about the studio : it's Playmagic Malta.
This is their FIRST game .....
Strangely, Playmagic has also a branch in Ukraine.
I know that 4A Games (the father of Metro exodus video games) is also a Ukrainian studio now based in Malta.
Coincidence ?? i don't know this Playmagic ... i really hope they get it right, for this first game.
i'm worried, because last "big" game from Microids was Blacksad (made by Pendulo studio).
And they are still struggling with bugs even 1 year later.......
Good luck to Playmagic Malta.

The ONLY big MINUS for me, is the lack of Multiplayer mode. Long time ago, back in the xbox classic era, the multiplayer mode was really fun. i guess Multiplayer mode means servers, which means money.... so no go.
Still.. too bad !! :-(

The price seems a bit high to me?
There are further stories in the original comics - what the game covers is only about the first third of them. I guess getting the rights for them may be a block?

Well, the player reviews are coming in and they're not good. Two stars tops: terribly buggy, unoptimized, and just generally "janky." Almost every single reviewer is demanding his money back. Too bad.

I sure hope modern consoles do automatic updates for their users, because it was released for PS4 and Xbox today as well. If the console ports can't be updated later, I'm afraid Microids can finally kiss their butts goodbye, but even if so, it looks bad for them...not to mention this Playmagic outfit.

GOG would do far better to get an actual good old game from Microids called War and Peace on here.
@ danebramage : ho... I hear you !
And knowing the "disaster" of .. say ..Blacksad: Under the Skin (Is it still patched now ?? ...not so sure, but you still have bugs .....), we maybe get updates.... another day.

Now for this "remake" of XIII, you have already patches "day one" for consoles .. but for PC ?? ..... :-(

I wonder, I hope there will be a statement about the game's state and what they will do about it. Did not refund it yet because I give them a chance, but honestly I think the story about this game is just done.
There are missing functions and visuals, that the original game had. Like the snowfall... Why?

There's also a weird thing going on with the rain in the spads camp mission, no visuals but sounds are occuring from time to time.
I hope the same team that made this REMAKE is never in charge of making a sequel, The Style is destroyed the bugs are everywhere the modern aspects brought in etc it looks quiet ordinary and does not fit the uniqueness that was the original, Real shame to.
