afaik this is only some simplistic adventure game based on the comics and not a sequel to the game we love

Yes, it's an Adventure game geared more towards the casual market, and not based on Ubisoft's XIII storyline. The 2003 game's storyline differed considerably from the one of the graphic novels, as do all the films and TV series; they keep the characters and basic plot elements but change the other stuff around.
Since the new XIII game uses many of the graphic novel's original artworks I'd guess it's closer to the original story. I might give it a try anyway if I find it for little money somewhere, but it's definitely not a sequel to this XIII.
