Absentmindedcat: Is anyone else unable to start a new game, it reliable crashes for me at the same place every new game and has for months, uninstall re-install, no change, I hoped installing it now after the big update/alpha release would be different but no.

Chonsu: Have the same problem. No idea why or how to solve.
Yeah, I believe this is related to a setup error we had with GOG Galaxy where it wouldn't uninstall the game correctly, and would leave behind some out of date files in the game directory. These cause a crash when you try to load the game.
Please could you try going to the install directory via Windows Explorer and manually deleting the entire folder? Then reinstall the game. That should give you a clean install that hopefully works fine.
This problem should not affect new users as we recently fixed the GOG Galaxy setup error that could cause it.
