Found no conclusive answer as to whether the 2K launcher is required for XCom 2 on GOG so was wondering if anyone could confirm for certain either way.
[the thread I found from 10/9/22 wasn't as conclusive as I'd hoped and that's the best answer I've found]

Cheers in advance :)

I am wondering this myself. That launcher, that no one asked for, is why I haven't installed and played X-Com 2 on Steam. If GoG omits this spyware (that's all it is to me) then I may purchase and play this title here.

Does this release include the launcher or any other unasked for bloatware?

It seems that nobody knows :/

I have put a support ticket in requesting an answer but I don't expect a response anytime soon - I think they're backlogged with Galaxy update issues atm :|

@PancakeLauncher :
Tbf it's not really spyware - 2K are upfront about selling all your data to other companies (including those based in countries with less stringent data protection laws than your own...) - it is most definitely however unwanted bloatware with a propensity for preventing you from playing the games that run from it. Hmmm...I wonder if any of the Galaxy devs worked on the 2K launcher...the similarities between the two are starting to pile up of late.

I Own the game but currently I don't want to install to check. Do you know when 2k added their launcher? On GOG the game was released 16-03-2020 , So if they added the launcher at a later date it's safe to say that the gog version will not have it.
Well I missed the thread below in my search. Fortunately somebody replied to it today and I had a better look - post #5 in it implies that the 2K launcher has been forced on GOG users too :(

Update: I recieved a response to my ticket about this: Official response is no launcher - full email reply below.

Hello,

Thank you for your message.

As a general rule, GOG games do not require any additional launchers (including our own GOG GALAXY). However, when it comes to playing the multiplayer mode, there might be some additional requirements.

As for XCOM 2: multiplayer mode is not supported as mentioned on the game page, therefore there is no additional launcher required to play.

Kind regards,

Seems like a generic reply. I would not be 100% sure. It's better if someone can install the game and let us know here.
no, goes through to the screen with the sniper, you can load or start new game, pick options, character pool or exit game.
