So here's what's bugging me so far :)
Haven't sent support a ticket yet, they are not that big things - waiting to see if I find more.
Not trying to talk bad about the game, I love it.

- the game does not remember my settings, always have to change them all over again each time I start the game, even though I have ticked the 'use settings' box. -> Fixed with going to the .exe files' properties and ticking the 'administrator' boxes

- what the hell is a proper resolution? :) I know this varies for each computer. I have a widescreen laptop and after going through all the possible choices in-game, found none to both a)fill the whole screen b) not leave out parts of the in-game view. especially vertically things are quite missing. So far resolution choice 14 is the best when it comes to vertical view, but that cripples things horizontally.

Your first issue, about settings not saving, is probably a Windows thing. Running as administrator will let the game save in its own folder, running without administrator may not (using a user folder instead or failing to save). GOG always recommend installing games as administrator, and I'd recommend using an unprotected folder like C:\Games\...

As for the second issue, the screen resolution, bear in mind that the first X game is old. The PC Gaming Wiki shows that the game supports widescreen but is vert- not hor+ so if you don't want to lose anything from the top and bottom of the screen (due to it being pushed off screen) then stick with a 4:3 resolution and pillarbox it by maintaining get aspect ratio in your graphics drivers. You'll get black sections down the left and right of the screen but at least you'll be playing it as it was originally intended.
