X4 players - Apparently GOG is going to be restricting GOG Galaxy Cloud saves. Starting August 31st, 2024, GOG is implementing new storage limits for Cloud Saves. This restriction limits the available space for Cloud saves to 200MB per game, i.e. 200MB for all saves for that game combined. This change could result in the deletion of your save files stored on GOG's Cloud if they exceed this limit.

See Egosoft post here https://forum.egosoft.com/viewtopic.php?t=465722

So if you use Galaxy instead of the manual download installers, and you rely on its Cloud saves, you are going to need to change to backing up your saves locally on a USB drive or something, as collectively late game stage saves will take you way above the 200mb limit.

Just two of my most recent saves add up to 220mb, so one of those would be lost, along with the other 8 X4 save slots.

So switch off cloud saves in Galaxy settings for this game, or if you need it on for other games .. watch out for it overwriting the X4 saves you want to keep, no doubt GOG are going to screw the pooch during this transition, they usually get something wrong / badly planned.

Thanks for letting us know.

Some folks, like myself, do not go anywhere near GOG Galaxy for reasons such as this and appreciate being kept in the loop.

GOG is dead. Long live Good Old Games (aka original releases with widescreen support / LAN features maintained and no phoning to GOG home).
