I know when it came out the reviews were horrible. How is the state of the game with the expansion and 4.0 upgrade?
Would like to know that, too!

I played X and X3. I liked the first one a lot, but imho it was very "long-winded", X3 I found very inaccessible and didn't play more than a few hours.

I'm courious if X: Rebirth does it "better", that means if I can get access and can make progress a bit faster.
I bought the game a few days ago on GOG. It's different from the old games but the only glitch so far is the slow load of characters sometimes (the reason might be my computer...) so the game itself seems to be in an adequade condition now.
The station docking is more inconvenient than before and the use of galaxy and sector maps isn't as intuitive as before.
Played the demo for an hour... The controls of the menu are very cumbersome in my opinion. Also the HUD is overloaded with points of interest and icons when scanning... And to find out how to dock to a station took me half an hour ^^

Is the beginning of the campaign so complicated, too?

In the demo there was just the scenario with the TerraCorp-system available...
You have to hire 3 specialists and it took a while to find a defending officer who finally agreed to come with me. In a lot of stations the mercanaries just refused my offer.
necro. sorry, GOG forums aren't very good about keeping old threads off the main page.

This is one of the reasons we need the mods.

I use a mod for hiring these officerers. Sitting in my ship. I don't search for them, going into the stations. That is fun for the first time, but wears off very fast.

I copied the "SteamApps\common\X Rebirth\extensions" dierctory into the gog directory.

"Teladi outpost" seems to be included in the GOG games, but if you want to start a separate game in teladi outpost, you hve to use the original DLC.

After copying the files, "Home of Light" and all steam workshop mods can be activated and deactivated as usual in the extensions menu.

First test tio start "Teladi Outpost" and "Home of Light" worked just fine. No guarantee whats however in a long run. I only started the modules.
