Ok, I don't mean "how do you play" as far as mechanics go or strategy/tactics. I mean from a story point.

So, I've installed X3:TWP and I've got two icons on my desktop, one for the original game and one for Albion Prelude. But there's only one manual, for the original game.

What I want to know is, do I need to play the original game first--and go through the whole story--and then start Albion Prelude to get that story? Or since Albion Prelude is, well, a 'prelude,' can I play that from the start and after finishing that story, will it automatically lead into the story of the original game? Also, are any enhancements that AP added to the game, ONLY available by running AP, or were the enhancements added to the original game as well?

With some games, the add-on packs allow you to continue and/or start the original game story seamlessly with the new content. With others, the add-ons are basically new stories--that is, nothing carries over from the original game and you are basically starting over. Since there is no AP manual, I can't tell which way it is. I would prefer to play both stories seamlessly where I don't have to start all over again from square one, but need to know if that's possible.

Here, this pretty much sums it up quickly. TC comes before AP story-wise, and AP before X-Rebirth. TC and AP are at heart sandbox sims, but there are plot lines you can engage in, that continue the X universe story (and I would most definitely encourage you to do so) by giving you missions to complete as you pick up and engage in the x universe story. Personally, I would recommend starting with TC first, then play AP afterwards. They are actually two separate games, and AP does not "automaticalyl" start after TC...as a matter of fact, you decide when TC ends (usually after you've done all the plots, and built up your empire to a point you are a major force to be reckoned with, and if you desire, can go reek havock on some other race for fun, or whatever reason you want to. It should be noted that there are mods that you can use, if desired to install all the major plots from TC into AP and play that way, if you don't wish to play both at some point.

Ohh, there is only one manual, because it really covers the basics of both games. I believe AP was originally an expansion to TC.

Others will probably drop by and give you a more eloquent explanation then I have, but that's my take. Have fun whatever you decide, and there are quite a few folks who are playing now, or have played a lot and monitor this game forum if you need help down the road.

X3TC and X3AP are free standing from each other except a bit of lore that you can read or watch videos about in case you do not want to install the TC plots in AP mod and not interested in investing a lot of time in both games.
Some of the improvements to the game made in AP were backported to TC as well but far from all.
Thanks, guys. I appreciate the help!
Enjoy, and be sure to drop by and let us know how your game is going...even if you don't start a "diary", keep us posted!
