skerbl: Edit: Should have included X4 in the title, sorry.

So I made up my mind to buy this game earlier than I normally would (/r/patientgamers habits), partially because I'd like to repay Egosoft for the enormous fun I had with X3:TC/AP, which I bought in a pretty low sale. I always felt like I kinda ripped them off on that one. But I still can't decide *where* to buy it. With the game available here on GOG, the decision sounds like a no-brainer. The only thing that might prevent me from buying here would be if the devs were to neglect their GOG version (long delays in patch releases, missing features, that sort of thing). Is this the case with X4?
I use GoG Galaxy, and when it comes to patches, including all the beta patches, GoG gets the patches on the same day as Steam gets them, usually with in minutes, though there was one time it was a few hours later.

mAritz: Response from support on this:

I checked this and it seems that this is a "real" beta patch.
We supply beta patches only in special cases through GOG Galaxy.

mAritz: So sadly this rather important beta patch will not be available for manual download. A 2-tiered class system for GoG customers that pay the same. :-(
There isn't a 2-tiered class system for GoG. The beta patches are available to you equally as it is available to anyone else who bought the GoG version. You choosing to not use GoG Galaxy is your own choice, you are not being blocked from the patches except through your own choice.

Socratatus: ... And if you`re THAT bothered about multiplayer (I am happy being SP) then you might as well go Steam, since you`ll be DRmed anyway.

clivewil: heh, it reminds me of the GOG vs. Steam comments on No Man's Sky...
"GOG don't get multiplayer, they don't care about us!"
...while i was thinking "phew, thank god they left out the multiplayer. they do care!"

i too am happy for all my games to remain SP-only.
there's nothing out there for me in MP-land.
Well I LAN a lot so multiplayer is good to me, I can do without the youtube raised gamers grieving and having no team ethic in multiplayer online; but in games like World of Tanks it can work in your favour due to squad formation with friend who have a monitor right next to yours you can point at locations and easily develop strategy with.
That said multiplayer games are lazy as shite now because unlike former console generations pretty much nothing is giving good ai controlled bots and the backbone is handed off to the 'fill ins' to actually make it a game worth playing.
It even effects single player in that you don't get roaming enemies or those with behaviour scripting for a general locale; no you get enemies that pop into existence like slavering monsters with nary a thought but to as messily kill with an innate homing beacon for a brain instead
-Rant off; powering down.
