Zoltan999: making complexes with the 3D camera available if you have an advanced satellite in system.
Wait, the "camera" bit about advanced satellites actually has an effect? I spent quite a while poking at my first advanced satellite early on without finding anything related to a camera about it, other than the increased range (which is more than worth the added price anyway). Will definitely have to go watch this!

Yes, it can also help quite a bit when hauling asteroids/stations with a tractor beam, and placing them close together, for connecting together, or adding to an existing station or complex.

Of course I knew that! (NOT) Thanks for the tip. ;) Looking forward to read more about your adventures.

Zoltan999: Nice! I would also like to thank you for keeping up on your diary, and posting through day 7. Always a pleasure reading others adventures in the game. If your interested, this guy has some pretty good tutorials, including this one on making complexes with the 3D camera available if you have an advanced satellite in system. Also, if you are also interested, he has some decent tutorials on using the CAG/CLS software for automating ships later in his series.
I'll definitely look at those thanks. The last day took ages compared to the others since I don't have as much free time now, sorry about that. Been a blast though.

............

So now that I've finished the first week I've got a question: Where the heck is the gate to Aldrin 2? I've hit the eastern 'wall' and still haven't found it.

A must have. If you really do not want to leave an advsat there you can pick it up afterwards.

You have to finish some other plots to get there...which will activate another plot, in which YOU are responsible for opening Aldrin 2 to the known universe once again. This will give you a smallish hint, without spoiling anything really. However, don't click to the next page and beyond unless you need help. He clearly marks proceeding any farther as *Spoilers* though, so no worries. One thing I want to mention, as I see you also have one of those awesome Springblossoms. I have found (if you haven't already) that docking at a station that also has a Springblossom already docked there (or one docks, while you're also docked) often creates a bug that will immediately cause your SB to blow up when un-docking. It really sucks, and I have found no way around it. It is apparently a bug in the code that many others have experienced as well. As some plots spend a lot of time in Terran space, and require docking, SB's are frequently encountered. Always good to keep this in mind, and plan accordingly...either with having another ship you can use for docking nearby (or transferring to on the station), or even use a different ship all together. This only happens with your personally piloted ship...I have some SB's traders in Terran space, and they don't have this issue. Just wanted to mention this to you, because I learned that lesson the hard way, and lost quite a bit of progress at one point.

Also really useful for "move to position ...", "map sector ...", and possibly others.

Damn, there's a bug like that? Good thing I haven't run into any other parked Springblossoms then. And thanks for the hint, the non-existent gate was driving me crazy.

I just watched this, and wow, am I ever so ashamed of this complex of mine which right before I was still mightily proud of. :P The camera bit really makes all the difference. And I _had_ actually discovered it before, just hadn't realized how it could be used...
Ah well, I'd better go gather some more credits and locate a likely sector for a much better complex, now. ^_^

The first time it happened to me, I was like WTF? Is there a Xenon war party I missed in the sector, and they are creaming me as I un-dock? lol I finally did some searching of forums, and found out about the bug. It may not happen for everyone, but wanted to let you know, so you can make sure you have a decent save point, and don't lose valuable progress like I did when it happened to me the first time...arrrg.

And don't feel bad, I went searching through Terran space like you did, looking for that blasted gate to Aldrin 2, and after being frustrated, finally found out about the plot requirements. One good thing though, got to discover and map out all that area in the process x).

No worries, even with the 3D camera, it takes a bit of practice and patience, lol. One thing I also discovered....to produce those really nice complexes that have everything line up nicely is one hell of a lot easier when you have all the the stations, and place them one after the other before connecting them first. Once they are connected, they don't show up in the same manner on the 3D map, and it's a heck of a lot trickier to place things and get them to line up as nicely. This isn't always an option though earlier in the game when you don't have the credits to buy a ton of stations all at once first.
Even trickier, is hauling some big ass asteroids (you have to have a mining station built on them first, in order to use a tractor beam on them) and bringing them in close to make them part of your complex, so you don't have some crazy ass connecting tube running a 1/3 of the way across the sector, heh heh. Strangely, I kind of enjoyed the challenge, and found it a bit relaxing with the awesome soundtrack playing in the background...well until I might crash the asteroid into something that is :P
