From Killpixel on the official 3DR Discord, about a month ago:
the date in the roadmap was put their as a placeholder until the realms deep date was confirmed. the date on the roadmap was never updated with the correct date. the "big content surprise" is a preview/reveal of something pertaining to wrath. however, it looks as though that will not present at realms deep, since it's not ready and would take away too much from wrath development to get the reveal ready in time. wrath will have a presence at RD, probably in the form of some developer interviews.
