Carighan: I doubt they can work together. What I'm much more curious about is whether this'll be gutted for non-steam users because they might do multiplayer via Steam. :s
groze: As bad as GOG Galaxy might be, in its beta state, it'll always have that over Steam: it's cross-platform. You can theoretically play any game that has online functionality with people who have the Steam version -- this can already be seen in select titles such as
Divinity: Original Sin,
Aliens versus Predator,
Double Dragon Trilogy,
Rise of the Triad (2013) and a few others. Admittedly, there are not that many games on GOG right now that take full advantage of this feature, but it does look promising and it is, in fact, something Steam doesn't cover, as of now -- you have a Steam version, you can only play online with people who also have the same Steam version. Like I said, theoretically, buying the game on GOG means you could play it with people who bought it on Steam, but that's *in theory*. It remains to be seen whether Team17 will take advantage of that GOG Galaxy feature or not.
[EDIT] According to
GOG's official pre-order video, Worms World Party comes with full GOG Galaxy support, which means that it does, indeed, support cross-platform play with people playing the Steam version. As for cross play with the classic version of the game, I don't think that's possible, unfortunately...
For sure this is going to have multiplay compatibility with steam clients? I want to buy it here at GoG but I don't want to lock myself off from a large population of online players.
