I'd be grateful for any help:-

I'm trying to set up LAN plan on 2 similar machines. They are Ubuntu 22.04, with the GOG version of Worms 2 installed on wine 6.10 (via PlayOnLinux 4.3.4). I've installed the Worms 2 Plus patch at https://github.com/Carlmundo/W2-Plus#worms-2-plus

Hotseat works fine (thanks GOG). But if I create a game on IPX, the players can join the lobby and chat, but when the host starts the game it immediately says "Disconnecting from network" and dumps the players back in the lobby.

If I create a game on TCP/IP (contrary to the instructions), they players can join the lobby, but the guest pc is unable to create a team as it always says the host has 'closed the door'. Perhaps this is deliberate to prevent this, but I thought I would try it since IPX is notoriously difficult on wine.

I've installed directplay via winetricks. Sometimes msxml4 or other dependencies are needed for multiplayer games so I might try that next.

I'm also aware of a third-party tool for emulating IPX - which is needed by Warcraft II - but I might delay trying that since the Worms 2 Plus upgrade already includes some changes to how IPX works.
