When I start the game it defaults to the Soviet Assault expansion. How do you play the original game?

EDIT: apparently they combined them together and the game alternates between the different campaigns as you progress. Odd.

The last post in this thread suggests it is possible to disable the Soviet Assault content: https://www.gog.com/forum/world_in_conflict_complete_edition/whered_the_wic

I just tried it and it works. I moved the assault.dat file out of the game directory. The campaign now starts with the invasion of Seattle, as per the original release of the game.

YES! thank you necro topic!
Bump, this is still relevant for World in Conflict Complete Edition in 2024.
I really think the people complaining about this should take their ADHD medication and actually play past the first mission. This version of the game COMBINES the original american campaign and Soviet Assault missions to complete the story and tell it in chronological order. You'll play as americans for most of the campaign, who have like 14 missions. And then soviets have only 6 missions and you'll switch to them at certain points to show the campaign from their perspective and give you more information on some events. And then it's not like you have to learn how to play both factions because they're both technically the same with minimal differences, same as NATO forces. This is nothing unheard of, as there are plenty of games with campaigns that will switch the POV to different characters and factions in order to tell the story with full context.
