I have the same problem... However - even though not a real workaroud - what works for me is to:

1.) STRG+ALT+DEL when the game seems to freeze (skripted scenes or reload),
2.) wait some seconds
3.) and ALT+TAB back into the game.

Quite annoying anyhow.

All the best

Yes, this (CONTROL+ALT+DEL) and show Task Manager, waiting 10-15 seconds and than ALT+TAB back into game sometimes works, sometimes not. In the later case it simply hangs for infinite time.

One time I waited for 10 minutes but it simply didn't load again.
Had to "hard quit" and load/open the game again...

I had tried to also the suggestion from the other topic (full screen windowed mode, WIndows 7 and/or Windows8 compatibilty mode, run as administrator ect.), but to be honest, there is no real change.
Ok, update.

I have been playing now in a Window (not borderless fullscreen) and doing some Alt+Tab back and forth into the game (also pressing "e" and "esc" but just 1-2 times) While sometimes i had to wait between 1-5 mins (!!) for the game to respond, i have been able to continue playing without having to kill the process, watching all cutscenes and cinematics.

I also have changed the compression of textures Off (i think for AMD are recommended to be ON but...i have nvidia so i tried) and cache textures to 32 pages instead of default 16. I have disabled V-Sync in the game and forced it with triple-buffering on the Nvidia control panel.

While some loading times are still very high, at least i'm able to play the game without having to quit and run again. I have experimented some stuttering in 1 longer cinematic but that's all.

Some things i have noticed:

-Recovering from death needs more loading time than restarting the game IF there's no cinematic or cutscene. I mean, if game starts directly into the action, then it loads very quick.

-Going back to the main menu from the game takes much, much longer than quitting to desktop, running the game again and resuming...lol (again, because starts directly into the action, i suppose)

-After disabling the compression in textures and making the texture cache double size, game is using just 2 more GBs in the cache pagefile (from 8 to 10 gbs file size) I have system cache disabled by default so system only uses what the game needs. I have the cache on my SSD, ofc, but starting my PC fresh without the cache already written in the disk makes little difference, game runs and loads to menu in a matter of seconds in both cases (i have cinematic intros disabled for saving time: +com_skipIntroVideo 1 as running parameter on Galaxy)

-After all, and as the game runs perfect while in-game, it may seem that this kind of problems come from loading the .bik and then mixing the sound in (from english.streamed, for instance) I mean, apart from the memory/cache issues the port has. I will have to download the steam version and see the differences here, maybe the bink decoder library is not the same version as in 2018 (i doubt it but will test)

I have a Gforce 980 with 4GB VRAM and 16GB RAM on system and except Shadows on medium, the rest of graphic options are HIGH or enabled. Playing at 1920x1080, but i have also tried 2K and game runs perfect except for the freezes when loading that are the same in both resolutions, no matter if lower or higher graphic options, etc.

As the GOG version must be (i suppose, except for the drm removal) the same i have already played before, the only thing i can think has changed is the graphic drivers. It's stupid but i'm thinking in downgrading the drivers until the minimum recommended by Bethesda/MachineGames (355 i think, have to confirm) and keep testing the differences because it's annoying being able to play the game before and now having all this problems.

In any case, the game's optimization is awful and all this problems are not new and i saw loading freezing reports since 2019 until now on Steam forums, maybe even more than before, not sure. No one has a single solution unfortunately, and it seems that crashes loading the game (a lot also in the forums) are related to this loading videos thing, at least for a good part of those affected (some were able to avoid the initial crashing skipping the intro videos, but again this is not universal)
I tried some things from here:

Also updated my Geforce 1030 GT driver to the latest (3 February 2020)

GeForce Game Ready Driver
Version 442.19 - WHQL
Release Date Mon Feb 03, 2020
Operating System Windows 10 64-bit
Language Other
File Size 529.54 MB

The loading time is mostly the same (from 20 second to X minutes) between cutscenes/locations or if you die.

The interesting thing is, that on medium setting/1080P I get very solid framerate (between 40 and 50 FPS) on this GPU.
Some things are disabled of course.

Now after the driver update, there seems to be a bit better loading time in some sections (1-2 minute or so :D)

Having the same issues.. Weird loading times and a high chance for a complete gamecrash whenever there's a cutscene or loadingscreen. Tested a few workarounds but nothing helped. Quite annoying.. :-(

Could it be the game hangs if we play with the keyboard in other language..? I have the same problem with annoying waiting times before cinematics of 4-9 minutes and i see the game turned my keyboard lang from RO to ENG when i exited..

Can you guys try playing with ENG and see if you get stuck anymore before the cutscenes ?
I had these issues with the steam version but fixed it just with the menu settings and Id tech tweaker

https://community.pcgamingwiki.com/files/file/849-id5-tweaker/

but i can't remember what settings fixed it. Creating the cache folder also helped.
I haven't played the GOG version yet even though purchased

The game had the same issues for a lot of steam users but was never fixed

Having the same issues here.

Win10, 3900x, 32GB RAM, RTX 2080, all SSD setup

I'm hoping for a patch soon.
I have the same problems: loading times that are way too long after death, before a cutscene and restarting a level/checkpoint. This game is 6 years old at this point and it should run like a Laserkraftwerk through already molten butter.

Windows 10 Home
i9 9900K
32GB RAM
GTX 1080
Installed on SSD.

I've already created the 'cache' folder by creating "Wolfenstein The New Order" within "MachineGames" within C:\Users\YOUR USERNAME\AppData\Roaming. I've also made an exception in my AntiVirus for the folder in which I install all my GOG games.

Thanks to your feedback, I've realized the problem is related to a memory leak.

When I launch the game for the first time, it uses 1.8 GB RAM. After my first death, it's at 3.1 GB RAM, after my second death it requires 3.8 GB RAM, and so on.

Even as I'm playing, the memory consumption just keeps increasing endlessly. I'm writing this post while watching Wolfenstein's memory consumption grow. By the time I'm writing this sentence, Wolfenstein is using 5 GB RAM despite only showing the pause menu.

Eventually, the game froze at 11 GB RAM while increasing its consumption up to 19.5 GB RAM.

Unfortunately, a memory leak isn't something that we players can trivially fix. I'll see if there's an option that can be turned off that will stop the leak, but I can't guarantee anything.
I suffered through an entire playthrough with all the cursed loading and immediately went into The Old Blood. The issue doesn't seem to be present in that one. Loading is instantaneous now.

I wonder if they'll even bother fixing it

It doesn't matter in what language you play. I tried the to switch to german language and it is the same (just censored :P).
