I fought Scabban in the first Crypt. Now one of my characters has wasting disease, and is losing fortitude points. Seeing as my party is only level 4, and the Vine Cure spell is level 6, I have no way to heal this manually. So does it go away on its own? Can I restore the lost stat points or are they permanent?
Wasting disease is permanent unless cured. Stat loss isn't curable.

If you can get to Temple quickly to cure it, that is a solution. There is also the possibility of using Cure potion, but it is not a common drop (earliest possibility is Temple donation, followed by a rare drop from a certain Vampiress, drops in Brimloch or Skull Castle).

This isn't directly answering the question, but for new players: The easiest way to check for Wasting Disease is to cast Great Heal and see if the green face status effect vanishes. Otherwise, just wait until any nausea would have worn off.

Stat loss may not necessarily ruin a character; the player can use Reset Adventures (or have a rogue and a mage work together in later levels) to gather more Ankhs. If the stat loss is in Strength, there is also the possibility of invoking "of Holding" jewelry.

So its worse than I thought, haha.. What if I purposely kill the character than revive them later. Does that rid the disease?
It's been a while since I've had a character get infected with Wasting Disease, but I remember the effect persisting even through death (disc version).

Confirmed, effect persists through death. Luckily sprinting out of the temple didnt take terribly long.

Hello! In my experience, if you find an "Amulet of Holding" (you won't find this until you get to Ishad N'Ha and kill enemies who drop it), my Warlock was the only one who could invoke it. It's restricted for everyone else. You can invoke many times (when in town, sell it and then buy it back) - it's for strength. You can reach strength level 21.
