I have successfully completed the Samurai ascension quest three times but on the ascension quest for the 4th character, I cannot find that dead samurai in or near the graveyard around Shurugeon Castle. Known bug? Any fixes? Can use the editor if all else fails but prefer to do this the old fashioned way. Thanks.

You could work around the issue without editor by creating a new character at the inn who meets samurai stat requirements, get the samurai quest with him, then give his baton to the 4th char who you originally wanted to make samurai, then finally delete the temporary samurai wannabe.
