I think I owned this game back in the day. One memory I have was that you could restart the game ( reset the quests ) and start playing again with the same party. What I think I remember is that a quest to change classes to a Ranger required so many spider eggs which were an uncommon drop. Is that this game ?

Yes this is the game. You can reset and start over again, but I think it was a raptor egg, not a spider egg for the ranger promotion.
