I can't seem to be able to run wiz8 unless I give it admin rights. I'd rather not do this because it doesn't sound safe. I tried applying the wiz8_fix.exe from the support page but that doesn't work. Wiz8 still requires admin. The fix seems like it just removed the intro/logo movies. Does anyone know of a way to run it as a normal user? I noticed when running it as a normal user, the rundll32 also starts and grows very large over time which tells me it's in an infinite loop of some kind. I usually kill it when it reaches 130000K. Killing rundll also kills wiz8 executable. So the two are linked somehow.

My setup is windows 7. The game is installed in my M: drive. It doesn't matter if i use compatibility settings, or if I change the 3Dvideo.cfg to glide or directx. I've tried disabling my antivirus.
It is safe to run the game as admin on windows 7.

The idea of admin is to stop kids playing games when they should be doing their homework... If you trust that the person playing is not a hacker (of the game) then it isn't a stress.

p.s. don't run as xp or anything else... just admin.
The game is positively ancient by today’s standards. Today’s game developers know how to make their games run without administrator rights. Back in 2001 when this game was made, this was much more difficult if not impossible if the game did anything fancy with graphics. Also, Windows 95, 98 and that ilk did not have the very notion of ‘administrators’ anyway, so no-one even bothered.

It’s an artifact of playing such an old game and is part of the nostalgia. ;o) If GoG gives you the game, then you can consider it ‘safe’. If you don’t trust them, you shouldn’t even be running their installer in the first place, let alone the game itself.
