So, the core issue is that Wizardry 8 does not launch - not from desktop shortcut nor from Galaxy, nor from the games folder. All compatibility modes and admin launches tried.

I did find that "Wiz8_fix" thing GOG had issued to solve this problem, but it keeps saying "Wizardry 8 is not installed. Please reinstall the game!" even though I have reinstalled thrice already.

Anything out there to fix this?

The game worked fine with my older computer, but it's not all that much different than this new one. Still Win7 64-bit, just newer hardware.

When you installed this new hardware did you also re-install the game or the o-system?
in any case, simply install the game again to a spot out side the c: programs folder and all should be fine.

It's a completely new computer (sold the old to a friend). And all my GOG stuff is already in D drive well away from c:programs.
Launch the configuration tool in the Wiz8 folder and see if changing it to Direct3D mode helps. You may also want to set compatibility options in the game's properties ("disable DPI scaling" is sometimes necessary).

Thanks for the tip, but it didn't work. I couldn't find a Direct3D mode toggle anywhere (there were only directX6 and 7, OpenGL, Glide2x and Software(MMX) options, none did anything) and DPI scaling was disabled by default in the compatibility options (toggling it otherwise didn't do anything).
Having the games files on your old D drive is not going to work until you re-install them.

DX6 and DX 7 are the D3D modes....

I've reinstalled the whole game around 5 times now (deleted the old folders after uninstalling so it should've been a clean install every time).

Well, neither did anything.
Did you browse for older DirectX distributives? You can try install them and see if that helps. It won't remove your DirectX9/11, it will simply add missing libraries.
