If you want a non-cheating way to get money without Alchemy, I would suggest raiding the rapax areas, looting the enemies (they drop lots of stuff), and selling the loot.
Also, having a high Communications skill helps.
With that said, if your party doesn't have a Bishop in it, you probably don't need to get that much money until later on (the two most expensive buyable items are sold deep within rapax territory anyway, and the one quest item that's expensive to buy can be obtained through less ethical in-game methods), and if your party does, you have access to Alchemy anyway.
(Are there any Gadgeteer recipies that could get you money? Does the Tripleshot Crossbow sell for more than its ingredients?)
(As a side note, I think Sir-Tech overvalued spellcasting consumables in their games, and they should have been cheaper and more common from the beginning, particularly when you look at Wizardry 1's scrolls of HALITO/BADIOS.)
