Hello there,

Since this seems to be a novelty when compared with Wiz6, I have a question on the TRUCE option.

Does the ending of Wiz6 have any impact on NPC interactions?

I have traveled with the T'Rang
(Kill Bela ending)
, and have already met Paluke and Dungore. Bribing Paluke (even with Diplomacy skill at "0") and getting him to talk was fairly easy but I have a problem with Dungore, the innkeeper.

Negotiating drags for "x" number of trials and it gets very, very tedious. I have tried it for, say, 30 times in a row. I know many activities in Wizardry are like that but this is really far off the "fun" mark.

As far as I know, the Diplomacy skill makes the talks run smoother but even if I buff it up to 100 in a cheat editor just to see the outcome, it does not help much. The negotiations seem to go well but in the end Dungore just leaves.

Yes, I am playing the DOS version of the game. I know the Gold Edition has broken Diplomacy.

Is there any tested way to convince NPCs, or should I just let it be and leave certain NPCs alone?

Okay, got this worked out. I checked it with the Cosmic Forge editor.

It seems KARMA plays a big role in NPC interactions.

Every NPC has certain ATTITUDE value towards a party member. This varies between your characters and relies heavily on KARMA (and perhaps on further allegiances but that's just my guess). Each NPC has also a fixed number of FRIENDLY ATTITUDE that when exceeded by a party member using TRUCE/PEACE grants your their friendship.

At this point the ATTITUDE of all NPCs towards my Dwarf Lord with KAR=2 is 12 and towards my Mook Samurai with KAR=11 is 32. I’m pretty sure the race and/or profession also plays a role in the calculation.

Each time the NPC is PLEASED this value rises by a few points. The good thing is you don't have to be successful in pleasing the character in just one go! When your negotiations go right, you can LEAVE and save the game to be ready for another round (and a reload if something goes wrong).

I didn't know it and that's what made me so frustrated!

Pleasing Paluke was easy because his FRIENDLY ATTITUDE value was around 20. Dungore needs at least 60!

Also, a thing to remember would be to give Diplomacy to a high-karma character. This stat was pretty much useless in the previous game but not more so in Crusaders.
