So I'm pretty sure I painted myself into a corner here. I used the rope to jump across to to the belfry, came to the door, and saved the game so I could attempt to pick/open it (found out later you need a special key for it, which I don't have yet). When I try to use the rope to cross back over, the bell rings, the bats show up again, and I find myself on the same side of the well by the door back in the trapped position again. I've also tried running during the encounter but I'm always "blocked" by the well when I do.

Each member of my party is Level 7, so I guess it wouldn't take a lot of time to start over but I'd hate to do that. Any ideas or help please?

BTW, I'm on a Mac and haven't been able to find the "savegame.dbs" file where the game is saved.

It's random whether you succeed or not in crossing the belfry (and you don't see immediately if you succeeded or not) so if you try often enough you should succeed one time.

Thanks kmonster. I'll give it a shot later and report back here. I'd tried it 6-7 times with no luck, but may have given up too quickly. In the meanwhile I found the savegame file and started a new party and got them up to level 6.

You were exactly right. The random number generator along with both sides looking exactly alike had me thinking I was stuck. Feeling a bit silly now.
