hi folks,

I have 2 questions about wizardry 6.

1. in the conversation I have experienced (queequeg) so far the character involved does not display all the verbiage shown in the clue book. nor can I type some of the full responses suggested. it that a problem with my game, or a general problem? if a general problem is there a fix?

2. I find myself stuck during combat if I attempt to cast a spell when a magic user attempts to cast a spell but doesn't have enough spell points remaining. is there a way to cancel out of the attempt, or am I stuck with a restart?

thanks in advance for any help you might offer.

RE: #1: It is not a problem. Chatting with Queequeg exactly per the manual is not necessary. Try just typing "rumors?" "rumor" "Heard any rumors?" I'm not 100% but I am recalling that you would see similar responses for any of these keywords/phrases/questions. Also, in general, typing things like "castle" "treasure" "river" et al. generate answers that are shared among NPCs. Go crazy, there are no stupid questions in Wizardry VI. You never know, you might uncover information leading to buried pirate treasure or some such thing.....

RE: #2: If I am understanding you correctly, there is a small "CANCEL" symbol just to the left of the Power level selectors {the buttons that look like 6-sided dice}. Also, if you click on a power level you don't have enough points for, just power down till you see a number and not "****". Also, I always have to be careful when clicking power level after a class profession change because I'm not sure what power level a mage can cast a theology spell at if he/she changed profession from priest for example.

Pro tip #1: sometimes higher level spells "fizzle" wasting precious spell points, so even though your mage can cast a Power Level 5 spell - often times it is wiser to drop down to power level 3 or so in the event of fizzle or resistance by the enemy.

Pro tip #2: Wizardry VI was designed to run on PCs w/ "floppy drives", ancient technology now long forgotten. Therefore, just in case your party starts looking not so great at around level 8 or so {it happens} go ahead and make yourself a separate folder where you can make periodic savegame backups. For example, in the location of your savegame.dbs file start creating folders like "01 castle entry" "02 pre class change" etc etc - then copy benchmark save locations in those folders by just copying the savegame.dbs file to a folder, that way in the event of a corrupted save game or some sort of decision about class professions changes or w/e you could revert back to a recent save instead of just having the ONE save game....

Good luck,

L.

P.S. If you haven't tried it yet, Grid Cartographer is really helpful for mapping.

thanks for the reply lothyr.

you were right about the cancel spell button next to the spell power level. it is clear enough what it means when you look at it (a crossed out circle), but not when you are brain dead (like myself) and looking for something that says cancel. lol.

it is true that following the manual, I can ask all the right questions of queequeg, but the truncated responses from him sometimes omit the follow up question hints. this could be a problem for those folks dedicated to attempting the game without walkthrough support.

thanks again,

Hey Playa,

As far as playing through blind, I am attempting similar at this time. Back when I ran through this episode of Wizardry I think I was just trying to level a party for import in to VII. Never finished VI. Seeing as how you are not using a walkthrough, but are using the manual - if you glance at Theosophy spells - there is a "Mindread" spell for probing the thoughts of obtuse NPCs. The only potential pitfall I can foresee would be that your party kills an NPC prior to getting complete interrogation completed. Also, you might be overthinking Queequeg's responses a little, but I don't know for sure.

hope this helps without giving away any "walkthrough" type info :) - that always feels cheap to me too :)
I cant get to Queequeg. I go to the room where he is supposed to be in but Captain Matey always appears.
Did you get the copy protection wrong ? This can mess up the game.
