After hours of reading and hours of eager planning for my first party out in Wiz 6, I realized that I would really like to be able to just manually set my char's stats instead of keep throwing away chars because their roles weren't good enough. I remember how difficult this seires was, and I just really want to enjoy the story and nostalgic gameplay again, this time taking a whole party (as much as possible) through all three games.

Does anybody have any links or suggestions for editors?

Give Mad God's Cosmic Forge editor a try:

http://mad-god.webs.com/cosmicforge.htm

That *should* be what you are looking for :D
RE: Wizardry 6 only....

Cosmic Forge does not, so far as I can tell, let you edit your characters (although you can view them).

BUT I found a ye olde DOS editor that does the trick. It lets you manually set your skill points, increase your hitpoints, and raise all attributes to 18. (Unfortunatey it won't let you pick and choose attributes - it's raise them all to 18, or nothing.)
You can download it here:

http://www.mofunzone.com/game_trainers/wizardry_6.shtml

NOTE: I do NOT endorse the site or verify its safety. But I braved it, and downloaded the software, and it worked.
The program won't run in modern Windows (even in compatibility mode) but it will run under DOSBox.
Read the Readme for instructions, command line usage, etc.

...

AND if you also (like me) then went looking for a grid mapping program, you may have also (like me) heard about something called GridMapper and then found that almost every link to it on the web points to a 404 error. However it does still exist and you can get it here:

http://www.superdan.net/software/gridmapper/index.html

(Site owner rearranged his site but no-one updated their links.)

Hope that helps!

EDIT: Gridmapper's actually pretty rubbish for generating Wizardry maps, forget about it. Let me know if anyone finds something less awful.

Thanks Judas and Greg! Its unfortunate that Cosmic Forge editor wont allow editing characters simply because the designer doesn't want it considered a 'cheat' tool. But I can set my own Char pics with it!

I've been finding dead links all over the web for Wizardry utils, so at least that trainer you found, Greg, will get me partially where I want to be. I wanted to lovingly craft my PCs with their own strengths and weaknesses but I simply do not have time to make it through all of the Dark Savant trilogy without a proper plan and control over those strengths and weaknesses.

If anybody else stumbles upon anything, I sure hope they'll add to this thread.

I think I found exactly what you're looking for :D

http://www.softwarespecialties.com/free/Setup_we.exe

What this is:

WizEdit© 2.2 will allow you to modify your characters Base Statistics, Skills and Spells. It also allows you to "give" your character any item in the game, and then some. The "and then some" means you can give your character "unlimited" items. Unlimited Items are ones that never run out of charges or uses, like an Unlimited Thermal Pineapple or an Unlimited Quiver of Peacemakers. (from the website)

Here's some online documentation for WizEdit 2.2, keep in mind you can also download it:

You're a life saver! Unless my fiance ends up murdering me for spending too much time with Wizardry!

EDIT: Unfortunately, this is for Wiz 7 saves. Now to find one for Wiz 6.

Good find! This site has a ton of Wizardry resources, and the links aren't dead! Which is amazing since it doesn't look like it's been updated in over 13 years.

There's link to Wikipedia article about Wizardry: Labyrinth of Lost Souls, so it was updated in last 3 years. :)
But still, it's amazing, that site is still alive.
Which is great thing, since it is indeed Wizardry compendium.

I used BaneEdit and now Wizardry 6 crashed every time when going between the initial logo and the main menu.

Is this happening to anyone else?

(EDITED) I used BaneEdit to edit my savegame, including changing attributes and deleting items from a character's swag, and the game worked fine afterwards.

It's possible you've made other edits which cause problems but it's more likely that you've somehow damaged your installation while experimenting and trying to find a good editor.

If I had to bet, I'd say when outputting from BaneEdit you've accidentally saved over Scenario.dbs instead of Savegame.dbs. (Check the file sizes, Scenario should about 185 KB - if it's closer to 50, I've hit the nail on the head.)

Back up your Savegame.dbs, uninstall, reinstall, and slot your savegame back in, and see if it works.

Remember to always back up any data (and stick it in a different folder/file/on a different drive) before using one of these editors, period. Nothing is worse than taking time to tinker and finding out you accidentally wrecked your save games with what might be the tiniest of errors...

I have made every possible edit (I was importing my chars from SNES version) and nothing bad has happened.
So, GregT is right, you probably have corrupted your files somehow.
I was originally trying to find something that would let me just set the stats I needed for the classes I wanted, but then I noticed that Cosmic Forge has a "cheat" to increase the average random roll. When I applied that I was able to get every character I wanted in a couple of rolls (which included a Ninja) and it left things feeling "fair".
