Just one thing I have observed, based of what I have read:
The Lyre of Cakes has never, in a Sir-Tech Wizardry game, been both obtainable and functional.
In Wizardry 6, apparently the Lyre of Cakes is not obtainable, and if you cheat to obtain it, it is not functional.
In Wizardry 7, the Lyre of Cakes is apparently obtainable, but from what I have read, it does not restore HP to the party and is therefore non-functional.
In Wizardry 8, the Lyre of Cakes now actually works (finally!) and heals the party, but unfortunately, there is no way to get one. Of course, the developers created an item that does the exact same thing, the Dulcimer of Mending, and placed *two* of them in the game, making it unnecessary to cheat a Lyre of Cakes. (If you are modding the game and want to insert one, maybe replace one of the DoMs with one?)
Incidentally, in Wizardry Gaiden 3 and 4, the item is both obtainable (like everything else, as a random drop) and functional (at least outside of battle); I can confirm this from actual testing.
