Hello all.

So i plan on buying Wizardry 8 as soon as it goes on sale again. Checked copious amounts of videos, looks very fun.
I was wondering if you guys know of similar games. Other than the older blobbers. Call me out if you want to, but I can't see myself playing the older 2d ones purely from a graphics standpoint. Newer 2d, is fine though. As is older 3d for the most part.

Hopefully it'll go on sale during the winter.
Legend of Grimrock 1&2 are more recent dungeon crawlers. Movement is grid-based and combat real-time, though.

Check Elminage Gothic for a recent approach to dungeon crawlers with turn-based combat.

There isn't really anything exactly like Wizardry 8, though. It's an incredibly unique experience.
The Might & Magic games are generally comparable to contemporaneous Wizardry releases, though there are differences. Heroes of Might & Magic is a spinoff strategy game series that is nothing like Wizardry.
Going to echo the Might and Magic recommendation if you want a fairly different take on something in the same genre. Might and Magic is a lot more streamlined and exploration-focused than Wizardry is, but I think it scratches a similar itch if the older Wizardry games are off the table for you.

If you want a weird dark horse pick, GOG recently added Wizards and Warriors. It's got a weird, janky real-time/turn based hybrid combat system and isn't much of a looker, but the class system and puzzles are 100% Wizardry.
Dragon Age takes about as long and is sort of party based (not as much) but yes Wizardry 8 is a great game... be warned it is hard and you will get more than one party wipe... modern games tend to hold your hand a lot more than the old games
Thanks for the replies y'all.
I've seen and heard about the Grimrock series, but it lacks the turn-based combat.
I own Dragon Age, and I enjoy it quite a lot.

It's a toss-up between Wizards & Warriors and one of the 3d Might and Magics.
I've read that there is some mouse issue with Wizards & Warriors though.

I've noticed that there are very few free roam blobbers. It's too bad. I enjoy my Etrian Odysseys and Strange Journey, but the free roam is something I haven't seen much.

Thanks again guys.

e:If anyone sees this, which Might and Magic between 7 or 8 do you recommend? If I had to only get one.

Might and Magic 7 is a better game than Might and Magic 8. I've completed both and they are different from each other. 7 is longer and has more going on. 8 has more distinct classes and you get to play with a dragon in your class. Yes, It is overpowered.

They both use the same game engine.
Wiz8 is a very special mix of turn-based strategy and RPG. You may look for Party turn based games like Jagged Alliance 1 and 2 if you like strategy. The Might&Magic 7 and 8 RPGs did not cut the mustard for me. But Heroes of Might&Magic are more strategy. A nice real time strategy/RPG mix is Spellforce. Part 1 and part 2 are Budget priced. Part 3 is still full Price.

Have fun!

Might & Magic X Legacy is the closest I've found. It's pretty good. I'd definitely say that Wizardry 8 and M&M 6 and 7 are better (I haven't played 8 yet myself), but M&M X does have fantastic graphics and a decent challenge. I've never actually beaten it because of my severe case of chronic restart syndrome, but I've gotten at least 100 hours of entertainment from it. Sadly, Uplay is required.
