Hi guys,

I just wanted to inform our German gamers that we have updated our installer and provided a patch for those who don't want to re-download the entire intaller.

What this update does is it fixes Wizardry 7's (DOS) issues with not being able to hit anything using melee attacks. The problem was that the copy protection has proved to be a bit more insidious and resilient to our efforts. To that end we have left it intact and provided you guys with a key words file that you can easily access from the Start menu for the game.

We know that this might stink of DRM to some folks but please note that you only have to enter the key word ONCE and ONLY at the very beginning of the game, after that you can go on to crawling through Wizardry 7's many and varied dungeons while debating just which class to switch your Valkyrie or whether a Faerie Ninja is really worth the effort to acquire the Cane of Corpus.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask :D.
Are you telling us that Sir-Tech's programmers actually put something into the code which made it so if you hacked out the manual lookup that you wouldn't be able to hit enemies with melee?

This is like that thing Cleveland Mark Blakemore was talking about

ITZ coming!

Seriously speaking, yes, that sounds about right. Unfortunately, the German versions never did have their proto-DRM patched out later like their English counterparts.
Oh, this is only for the German version of 7?
A quick note:

just updated, and ran the German version. It seems that sound was not correctly setup, thus when run there is no music playing. But it's easily fixed if you go into the config and tell it to use sound/music. apply, it'll shutdown, restart the program and you'll have sound

I'll pass that on, thanks :D.

Ah, the wonderful world of pre-DRM copy protection. It's always been an arms race between publishers and pirates, with one always trying to think at least three steps ahead of the other. At least this was still better than some of the protection schemes I remember from the C64 days, ones that would actually render your entire disk useless (and, given the somewhat fragile nature of the standard 1541 floppy drive, ran a good chance of bricking that too) if you tried to circumvent it.

Speaking of the C64, I recognized the name "Cleveland Mark Blakemore" from many good type-in games found in the old Ahoy! magazine in the '80s. I never knew he was involved with Sir-Tech or Wizardry. Just... if you don't already know about this guy, I wouldn't try to Google his name if I were you. I certainly didn't know about some of his more recent... shall we say, "antics"... and I now regret my searching him up.

Yeah, Cleve is basically all of the worst, far Right conspiracy theorizing Tea Partiers combined into one guy. He is allergic to facts and logic so don't ever get into it with him online (He hangs out at the Codex now which is only a little ironic since he has in the past decreed that the RPG Codex were the worst bunch on the internet and whom would be unable to buy his 20 year old game just released.) as all his other haunts have gotten sick of him it sems.

Did he ever release that Grimoire game that was basically Wizardry VII-2? I remember reading about him doing a crowdfunding thing to get it released and then nothing else.

I haven't kept track, but apparantly a demo was eventually released.

Sounds more interesting and sensible than if he were all of the worst, far Left conspiracy theorizing namblacrats combined into one guy and allergic to facts and logic.

The far left conspiracy theorists can be pretty bad but the worst of them cannot hold a candle to the Cleve Blakemore/Glenn Beck crowd. I constantly have to deal with the JFK and 9-11 conspiracy theorists (most of which are now on the far right instead of the Left anymore...which is strange but things change. *Shrug*) so I am not waxing apologetic about them either.

I have no idea what a "namblacrat" is or what it has to do with the political Left though. If it is some insulting spin on 'Democrats' then you are making a common mistake of confusing political parties (i.e. Republicans, Libertarians and Democrats etc. which can all be Left or Right leaning) with political ideologies (i.e. Left/Right, Liberal/Conservative, which members can belong to almost any party).

Which facts and logic do you feel Leftists are immune to? The best I can come up with are the 9-11 conspiracy theorists (which again are mostly Right Wing now days) and JFK CT-ists as well as the more recent folks who are certain that George Zimmerman is guilty in the Trayvon Martin case. But even these are a far cry from the far Right nut jobs Like Alex Jones, Ron Paul etc.
Hey GOG guys, could we have a "report topic" or "report post" button please so that we can alert you when a thread goes seriously off-topic like this?
