Hi,
I wanted to install my copy of Wizardry 6 on my old 486 DOS PC and in my current DOSBox installation on my (Linux) PC.
Copying all the DOS files from the Windows installation worked (I just deleted all files with filenames longer than 8 characters; a good indication is looking for lowercase letters) and the game started. However I was unable to save the game as it prompted me for a savegame disk and there was no way to bypasss the prompt.
Looking into the game options revealed the installation path in GOG's DOSBox: C:\BANE\ . This option could not be altered. So I tried to enter my current installation directory C:\SPIELE\WIZRDRY6\ as savegame path. No success: the savegame promt still appeared. As this didn't work I removed the savegame path from the game options.
So I dug a bit into the game files and found something interesting in the file SCENARIO.HDR. There was the path to the GOG installation C:\BANE\ (screenshot1). So I altered this path with a hex editor (to keep the original file length) to my installation path C:\SPIELE\WIZRDRY6\ (screenshot2). That was the solution, now the game and saving are working flawlessly.
Cheers,
